Shards of Honor (Vorkosigan Saga #1):
The start of the Vorkosigan Saga. It was the wrong war, in the wrong place, at the wrong time, for the wrong reasons, with a secret agenda. Captain Cordelia Naismith of the Betan Expeditionary Force is captured by her enemy, Lord Vorkosigan of Barrayar.

The Warrior’s Apprentice (Vorkosigan Saga #2):
Between the seemingly impossible tasks of living up to his warrior-father’s legend and surmounting his own physical limitations, Miles Vorkosigan faces some truly daunting challenges.
Shortly after his arrival on Beta Colony, Miles unexpectedly finds himself the owner of an obsolete freighter and in more debt than he ever thought possible. Propelled by his manic "forward momentum," the ever-inventive Miles creates a new identity for himself as the commander of his own mercenary fleet to obtain a lucrative cargo; a shipment of weapons destined for a dangerous warzone.

Ethan of Athos (Vorkosigan Saga #3):
The familiar old SF "planet of women" chestnut is reversed in the planet of Athos — an all-male planet made possible by the invention of the uterine replicator. Ethan, drawn out of his beloved Athos by a quest, finds himself an alien in more mainstream human society, and cannot help but find women disturbing aliens as well, especially the ultra-competent, ultra-beautiful Elli.
Ethan of Athos is Lois McMaster Bujold’s third novel. It departs from the concerns of the Vorkosigan family to explore the ramifications of advanced biotechnology, turning many a cliché on its head along the way.

Falling Free (Vorkosigan Saga #4):
Leo Graf was an effective engineer…Safety Regs weren’t just the rule book he swore by; he’d helped write them. All that changed on his assignment to the Cay Habitat. Leo was profoundly uneasy with the corporate exploitation of his bright new students till that exploitation turned to something much worse. He hadn’t anticipated a situation where the right thing to do was neither save, nor in the rules…
Leo Graf adopted 1000 quaddies now all he had to do was teach them to be free.

Brothers in Arms (Vorkosigan Saga #5):
Miles Meets His Match — Almost.
The Dendarii Mercenaries thought shore leave on old quaint, placid Earth would be a nice change of pace from chasing Cetagandans. But with Miles Naismith Vorkosigan around, things just seem to get complicated. With Miles and his clone both in the same place at the same time, life gets too crazy for even Miles. Good thing Elli Quinn and the Dendarii are on hand to bail him out

The Mountains of Mourning (Vorkosigan Saga #5.1):
Twenty year old Ensign Miles Vorkosigan plays detective in a murder case, and tests the balance of power as a member of the Barrayaran nobility. Publisher’s Note: "The Mountains of Mourning" was originally published as a stand-alone novella in the May 1989 issue of Analog. It was then included as the first of three novellas that make up the novel "Borders of Infinity" (October 1989). For the novel, Ms. Bujold added a short "framing story" that tied the three novellas together by setting up each one as a flashback that Miles experiences while recovering from bone-replacement surgery. Fictionwise is publishing these novellas separately, but we decided to leave in Ms. Bujold’s short framing story for those who may also wish to read the other two novellas ("Labyrinth" and "The Borders of Infinity").] Hugo Award Winner, Locus Poll Award Nominee, Nebula Award. Winner, SF Chronicle Poll Nominee

Borders of Infinity (Vorkosigan Saga #5.3):

Against impossible odds, Miles organizes thousands of angry and dispirited prisoners into military formation that may offer the only chance for escape.

Weatherman (Vorkosigan Saga #5.4):
On Miles’ first military posting, he is sent to an outpost with Arctic temperatures and a psychotic, unstable commander. When the commander orders his men to enter a facility that is leaking poisonous radiation, the men revolt, and it’s up to Miles to use his wits to avoid a massacre. A story later incorporated into the Hugo Award-winning novel THE VOR GAME.

The Vor Game (Vorkosigan Saga #6):
Miles Vorkosigan faces enormous challenges in this Hugo Award-winning novel as he leads a mutiny against his military commander’s criminal orders, rejoins his Dendarii mercenaries, and attempts to rescue Emperor Gregor after Barrayar’s royal scion has run off straight into trouble … Sequel to THE WARRIOR’S APPRENTICE, this novel brought the Vorkosigan saga to major bestseller lists. THE VOR GAME continues to attract new readers to this internationally acclaimed series that Publishers Weekly described as "among the most enjoyable and rewarding in contemporary SF."

Various emergencies shatter his plans, and personally, a deadly encounter, a clone double, intended to take his place and infiltrate the highest echelons of Barrayar, come very close to ending his life.

Cetaganda (Vorkosigan Saga #9):
The fifth installment of the Hugo-award winning adventures of Miles Vorkosigan.
In this novel Miles Vorkosigan and his cousin Ivan travel to Cetaganda, the long-standing enemy of Barrayar, to represent their Barrayar at the funeral of the mother of the Cetagandan emperor. From the moment they arrive they are swept into a complex and little understood political game between elements of the Cetagandan ruling class.

Dreamweaver’s Dilemma (Vorkosigan Saga #9.1):
Dreamweaver’s Dilemma is a previously unpublished novelette set early the author’s Vorkosigan universe; the Hugo Award-winning “The Mountains of Mourning”; a never-before published Sherlock Holmes pastiche; an interview with Lois McMaster Bujold; and Suford Lewis’s Vorkosigan genealogy.

Memory (Vorkosigan Saga #10):
Miles hits 30… Thirty hits back.
Miles turns 30, and–though he isn’t slowing down just yet–he is starting to lose interest in the game of Wall: the one where he tries to climb the wall, fails, gets up, and tries again. Having finally reached a point in his life where he can look back and realize that he has managed to prove his courage and competence, he can move on to bigger and better things.
Depending on how you count it, this is the eighth, ninth, tenth, or eleventh book in a series–not all are about Miles or even his extended family. A good place to start is with the first Vorkosigan story, Shards of Honor.

Komarr (Vorkosigan Saga #11):
Lord Miles Vorkosigan is sent to investigate a problem on the conquered planet of Komarr, where the name Vorkosigan is drenched in blood. The Komarrans surrounding Miles could be loyal subjects–or rebels ready for revenge.

If a frontal assault won’t do, Miles thinks, try subterfuge. He has a cunning plan… Lord Mark Vorkosigan, Miles’ brother, also has a problem: his love has just become unrequited again. But he has a cunning plan… Lord Ivan Vorpatril, Mile’s cousin, has a problem: unrequited love in general. But he too has a cunning plan…
A complex story, as the various members of Miles’ family attempt to find their one true love, and a measure of destiny. This against a background of domestic political squabbles and an earnest attempt at capitalist enterprise.

Diplomatic Immunity (Vorkosigan Saga #13):
When a Komarran merchant fleet is impounded in Quaddiespace, Miles Vorkosigan, as the emperor’s troubleshooter, must answer the call of duty. The downside of being a troubleshooter comes when trouble starts shooting back.

Winterfair Gifts (Vorkosigan Saga #13.1):
This Hugo-nominated novella adds a delightful extra chapter to Bujolds acclaimed Vorkosigan series, describing the wedding of Miles and Ekaterin and the events leading up to it.

Cryoburn (Vorkosigan Saga #14):
Kibou-daini is a planet obsessed with cheating death. Barrayaran Imperial Auditor Miles Vorkosigan can hardly disapprove—he’s been cheating death his whole life, on the theory that turnabout is fair play. But when a Kibou-daini cryocorp—an immortal company whose job it is to shepherd its all-too-mortal frozen patrons into an unknown future—attempts to expand its franchise into the Barrayaran Empire, Emperor Gregor dispatches his top troubleshooter Miles to check it out.
On Kibou-daini, Miles discovers generational conflict over money and resources is heating up, even as refugees displaced in time skew the meaning of generation past repair. Here he finds a young boy with a passion for pets and a dangerous secret, a Snow White trapped in an icy coffin who burns to re-write her own tale, and a mysterious crone who is the very embodiment of the warning Don’t mess with the secretary. Bribery, corruption, conspiracy, kidnapping—something is rotten on Kibou-daini, and it isn’t due to power outages in the Cryocombs. And Miles is in the middle—of trouble!

Captain Vorpatril’s Alliance (Vorkosigan Saga #15):
Captain Ivan Vorpatril is happy with his relatively uneventful bachelor’s life as a staff officer to a Barrayaran admiral. Cousin to imperial troubleshooter Miles Vorkosigan, Ivan is not far down the hereditary list for the emperorship. Thankfully, new heirs have directed that headache elsewhere, leaving Ivan to enjoy his life on Komarr, far from the byzantine court politics of his home system. But when an old friend in Barrayaran intelligence asks Ivan to protect an attractive young woman who may be on the hit list of a criminal syndicate, his chivalrous nature takes over. It seems danger and adventure have once more found Captain Vorpatril.
Tej Arqua and her half-sister and servant Rish are fleeing the violent overthrow of their clan on free-for-all planet Jackson’s Whole. Now it seems Tej may possess a secret of which even she may not be aware—a secret that could corrupt the heart of a highly regarded Barrayaran family and provide the final advantage for the thugs who seek to overthrow Tej’s homeworld. But none of Tej’s formidable adversaries have counted on Ivan Vorpatril. For behind Ivan’s façade of wry and self-effacing humor lies a true and cunning protector who will never leave a distressed lady in the lurch—making the ultimate sacrifice to keep her from harm: the treasured and hard-won freedom from his own fate as a scion of Barrayar.

Gentleman Jole and the Red Queen (Vorkosigan Saga #16):
Cordelia Naismith Vorkosigan returns to the planet that changed her destiny.
Three years after her famous husband’s death, Cordelia Vorkosigan, widowed Vicereine of Sergyar, stands ready to spin her life in a new direction. Oliver Jole, Admiral, Sergyar Fleet, finds himself caught up in her web of plans in ways he’d never imagined, bringing him to an unexpected crossroads in his life.
Meanwhile, Miles Vorkosigan, one of Emperor Gregor’s key investigators, this time dispatches himself on a mission of inquiry, into a mystery he never anticipated; his own mother.
Plans, wills, and expectations collide in this sparkling science-fiction social comedy, as the impact of galactic technology on the range of the possible changes all the old rules, and Miles learns that not only is the future not what he expects, neither is the past.

The Flowers of Vashnoi (Vorkosigan Saga #16.1):
Still new to her duties as Lady Vorkosigan, Ekaterin is working together with expatriate scientist Enrique Borgos on a radical scheme to recover the lands of the Vashnoi exclusion zone, lingering radioactive legacy of the Cetagandan invasion of the planet Barrayar. When Enrique’s experimental bioengineered creatures go missing, the pair discover that the zone still conceals deadly old secrets.
This novella falls after Captain Vorpatril’s Alliance in the Vorkosigan series timeline, but may be read entirely independently.
