Overview: Eve Francis has appeared in Plunge Magazine, Infernal Ink, Iris New Fiction, MicroHorror, and The Eternal Haunted Summer. Her short stories have been on The Human Echoes Podcast and included in The Grotesquerie, a short horror anthology for Mocha Memoirs Press. She is the former poetry editor for Prosaic Magazine and a peer reviewer for Feral Feminisms. Horror and romance are her favorite genres to write in because everyone knows what it’s like to be afraid—and fall in love. Her goal with most of her work is to talk about big ideas through likable characters and to see the world from as many points of view as possible. Having a happy ending is also another plus. She lives in Canada, where she sleeps often late, spends too much time online, and repeatedly watches old horror movies and Orange Is The New Black.

2. Storms & Saints
Sydney Ruysch is sick of adult responsibilities. She just broke up with her long-time girlfriend Violet and her job sorting through donations at a second-hand store sucks the life out of her. A strange trunk proves a brief, exciting distraction, but soon turns dull again when it proves to be filled only with old shoes and books.
Her life only worsens when she learns her band, Sweater Weather, has lost their drummer. But then an old pair of shoes changes her luck, and Sydney winds up their new drummer just in time for a competition. The shoes also bring strange dreams, however, and a mystery that always seems to lead back to her shoes.

3. Wish on the Water
When Whitney finds a pair of bright pink rain boots for her daughter Cayleigh, she thinks nothing of it–until the rain boots turn Cayleigh into a greedy monster who wants everything at once. Tired and frustrated one morning, Whitney runs into Chantal at a nail salon. When Chantal magically calms down Cayleigh, Whitney starts to crush hard in spite of her busy schedule and Chantal’s eight month pregnancy.
Chantal Mackenzie considers her pregnancy to be the stuff of legends. Not only does the baby not have a father, but Chantal doesn’t consider herself a mother. After years of gender confusion, Chantal finally believes she’s found the right label of genderqueer for her body and her feelings about it. Upcoming parenthood and her growing attraction to Whitney are both exciting–but also complicating as Chantal struggles to find the perfect term for her as a parent and ways of living in an aggressively gendered world.
A pair of neon flip-flops that seem to make Chantal ravenous, along with her increasingly vivid dreams about being a sorcerer, also make the last few weeks of her pregnancy memorable. As the due date draws closer, Chantal and Whitney’s relationship heats up, and the two start to feel as cursed as they do cosmic.
