Flash forward to our modern-day world. Brewster Delay, a recession-challenged businessman, and Carla Summers, a struggling shopkeeper, somehow exist in both dimensions. They dream about the one while living in the other. The angel sees God’s hand in this anomaly. Clearly, Carla’s duplicate, Maynya, must be a messiah for the morally bankrupt people in the land of Virtus, and Brewster’s double, the soldier Quintus, can protect her. An affair between Brewster and Carla might stimulate love between their doubles—possibly igniting enough emotion in Maynya to awaken her latent, miracle-working powers.
