The work at the lab has been yielding wondrous hope for human brain disorders, but Gordon stumbles on a perversion of that work that does more than just challenge moral boundaries. Is there anything he can do about it 240,000 miles away from any help?

For years, the Orb is studied but very little is learned about it. Then during routine testing, its discovered the pulse is slowing down, and thought to be a countdown. The world is faced with the question: In fifteen days, what will happen when the pulse stops?
