Asgar listens when the wood talks to him and carves beautiful figures. He dreams of Thora, who plays with him. But when he again fails the test to become a man to his father’s regret, then the other Viking warriors sail without him.
Left behind in the village, Asgar watches the warriors leave for the summer raid and he finds himself powerless as the village is raided by the cruel Erik Half-ear.
A non-voluntary travel takes Asgar from the peaceful village to the cold northern fjords surrounded by steep mountains and further away to the land of ice and fire across the sea. Now the enslaved youth from the village have to fight for their own survival. Joining Erik as a warrior would give Asgar his only chance to join the ranks of the men, but it would also turn into a traitor.
But being a traitor will not exactly enhance Thora’s view on him, and he soon learns that the outlaws have a dark secret: an ancient and sinister curse rests upon them. Now Asgar faces the challenges of finding the man who killed his mother and revenge her, save Thora and to discover a way to avoid the spell.
