Verbal expressions with dar

If you open a Spanish-Spanish dictionary, the first definition of dar you will see is donar (to give, to donate) or entregar (to turn in). Keep looking under the same entry, dar, and a rather long list of verbal phrases appear. This is not the case for all verbs, but some (such as dar, tener, and hacer) are the bases of a rich list of idiomatic expressions. Here are some of the idiomatic verbal expressions that include dar. Note how they vary in meaning:
