Overview: Aspiring novelist Gwen Walden wants out of her job at a sleazy tabloid magazine so she sets out to get an exclusive “expose” on reclusive author Joshua Denning who has eluded the media for more than a decade – since he wrote the Pulitzer Prize-winning best-seller that shook the publishing world. When she discovers Denning living on a secluded cliff overlooking the ocean she tricks her way into his home but her scheme for a terrific story goes awry when she realizes that she’s falling in love with him. When Denning discovers Gwen’s real identity his first instinct is to throw her out but by now he’s developed deep feelings of his own for Gwen.
Angry but unwilling to lose her Denning takes on the challenge of turning her into the respected writer she wants to be. As a teacher his methods are firm and uncompromising and Gwen soon learns that his promise to “whip her into shape” is no exaggeration.
