ON1 Portrait AI is a powerful tool for processing portraits that uses artificial intelligence technologies, it is able to automatically detect the faces of people in a photo and process them immediately, and without the need for any settings or even operator intervention. Introducing the program, Vice President of ON1 Dan Harlacher, in particular, said that “portrait photographers spend a lot of time on retouching portraits, and ON1 Portrait AI can easily cope even with processing a volume photo shoot, giving photographers the energy and time to creation".
The program detects every face in the frame and applies retouching to skin, eyes, mouth and other facial features without editing all other parts of the photo. For those who don’t really trust automation, the program offers tools for manual skin editing, such as frequency division, blemish removal, shine reduction, face reshaping, whitening of eyes, teeth and others.
RAW Converter ON1 Photo RAW 2021 is a full-featured program for cataloging and processing footage based on a non-destructive workflow using layers. In addition to integration with ON1 Portrait AI, the program also allows you to automatically tidy up your photo library. And if, in the case of processing portraits, the actions performed by the robot can be canceled, the portrait processed again, or even processed in another program, then trusting someone to put things in order in the library of images is a very bold decision. Most likely, this algorithm is suitable for those who have absolutely neither the time nor the desire to independently deal with the library of their photos.
ON1 Photo RAW 2021 focuses on selective processing, for this the program offers tools for choosing a color range, as well as various brushes with hard and soft edges for painting complex masks. The program allows you to create color-sensitive gradient masks that will help you process the sky, trees and buildings. You can also easily remove unwanted objects from the photo, such as pedestrians, wires, cars, and others that the photographer may deem undesirable.
When loading images, the program is able to recognize the shooting equipment and allows you to set default settings for various types of cameras. This tool, which Adobe introduced to Lightroom Classic in February 2020, has proven extremely useful in practice and actually saves a lot of time, more so if the photographer uses multiple cameras and lenses.
The developers of ON1 Photo RAW 2021 promise in the new version a tool for batch processing HDR, batch stitching panoramas, a new user interface and support for new cameras and lenses. Based on all these promises in the press release, ON1 has decided to compete with Adobe Lightroom. Will it work out, time will tell and the real work in the new version of the program.
