Overview: Lance K. Ewing lives with his wife, three boys (Hudson, Jax and Hendrix), Ringo, Mini and Bobo (dogs and a cat) in McKinney, Texas. When he is not at work, he can always be found with his family, preferably outdoors. Faith based, they attend First Baptist Mckinney, most Sundays. Lance grew up in the foothills of the Colorado Rocky Mountains, with the Rockies quite literally in his backyard.

1. Families First
When a devastating Electromagnetic Pulse is detonated over the USA, it leads to a total loss of power and a complete and catastrophic breakdown of everyday society. As the country descends into chaos and anarchy, one man makes an epic decision in order to save his loved ones and find a place of safety. From their home in McKinney, Texas, Lance prepares to lead his wife and three young sons, along with an assorted group of friends and neighbors, on a long and treacherous journey across the country, towards the only point on the map he can think of that will provide them with the security they need. Their journey promises to be long and arduous, and Lance will discover more about life than he ever thought possible as they find that desperate circumstances most often bring out the best, and sometimes the worst, in human nature. But the sprawling Saddle Ranch is in the Colorado Rocky Mountains and between them lies over 800 miles of harsh terrain, now filled with equally desperate, and oftentimes wretched, hostiles. Can Lance navigate a safe passage to the promise of a better life for them all? Or has he taken on much more than he bargained for?
3. Second Wind
In a post-apocalyptic world, where the rules have changed, Lance and his family, along with other survivors of the next-world, continue their struggle. Each setback grievously felt, and the clashes with military forces and desperate outlaws, have drained them both physically and mentally. But for Lance, he is left wondering how it will all end, as every day seems harder than the last. Can they reach the safety he promised everyone in one piece? Plagued with injuries and losses, will his group make it to the halfway point of Raton Pass, New Mexico, while already enduring more than they imagined? Vlad makes an unexpected trip to a FEMA camp without his consent, and Nancy is voted MVP of the first leg in the journey. Is Mike misunderstood or has Lance underestimated him once again? David’s group will suffer a devastating loss, while Mel loses everything but gains more than he could ever hope. Mac finds love and, in return, more drama than he can handle alone. James is reluctantly voted Mayor of Weston, Colorado, serving under a corrupt judge and sheriff with sinister plans.
4. Hard Roads
Having helped the Raton Pass Militia defend themselves, Lance knows that the time has come to move on to their Saddle Ranch objective. The delay has cost them dear, but he knows it was something they had to do. In a world where all sense of community and thought for others is rapidly disappearing, that one act was enough to restore Lance’s faith that he had not lost his empathy for his fellow man. Now faced with a detour through the Rocky Mountains, the group seems further from their goal than ever but is also filled with a new sense of comradeship and belief in themselves. With more new friends to be made, including a high ranking US Army Colonel who is able to fill in some of their information gaps, Lance is filled with a new certainty that they will make it, despite the seemingly endless dangers they face and their continued harassment by bands of hostiles. But even now there are difficult choices to be made. Do they ignore the problems of others they encounter, or do they stop to intervene when necessary? Every wrong they seek to right will impact on their chances of ever seeing the safety of Saddle Ranch. But will their consciences allow them to pass them by?
5. Homecoming
The post-apocalyptic world continues to provide dangerous enemies at every turn, as Lance and his ever-dwindling group negotiate a long and convoluted detour through the Colorado Rockies. On every pass and behind every boulder, danger lies in wait. Mountain dwellers, intent on keeping their scant resources for themselves, are prepared to kill to do so, while some others are only concerned for the safety of their families. As Lance desperately seeks safe passage through the hostile terrain, he risks losing his dog Ringo, while internal strife also rears its head and imperils their progress. Meanwhile, in the town of Weston, tensions are growing and it’s only a matter of time before it explodes, threatening to engulf the Raton Pass Militia and consume it, once and for all. And still in the back of his mind, lurking in the shadows, is the danger posed by Ralph and his fanatical followers. Mac is hopeful he may have seen the last of that band of crazies but he is only too aware that they could reappear at any stage. Meanwhile, at Saddle Ranch, Lance’s ultimate destination, the Colonel makes a surprise visit in the hope that he and the weapons he carries with him will tilt the odds in their favor. Their goal is almost within sight. Can Lance and his group make that last stage of their journey without further losses?
6. Battle Grounds
Saddle Ranch is everything that Lance, his family and their wider group of friends hoped it would be. Beautiful, bountiful and remote, it should provide them with the safety and security they have sacrificed so much to reach. But Lance knows that they cannot afford to rest just yet. The unhinged Baker and his gang of killers, who act in the name of a God that Lance could not begin to recognise, will soon arrive and their intentions are clear. Luckily for Lance, the Colonel has offered his support in the event of an attack, but with internal strife still dogging them it may be offset by the Sheriff and Judge Lowry about to resolve their differences once and for all. With the attack imminent, new information emerges about the EMP and the government’s knowledge of the attack, while Baker’s group discovers the spies in their midst. As the losses stack up, Lance is all too aware that there is the potential for even more to come. He must do everything in his power to ready the residents of the ranch for the battle ahead, while preparing them for the worst. Can he save his family and their new home and carve out a new life? Or will Baker and his crazies ultimately be too strong for them?
