Overview: In the first few years of the 21st century, due to a chance series of events, Coast Guard officer David Kolko stumbles upon a revolutionary scientific breakthrough which enables him to develop a new space engine—a mechanical revelation which thereby aids man in travelling the span of the solar system in a matter of mere hours. Kolko then comes to the immediate realization that such a discovery will now make it possible for man to harvest the enormous wealth that the solar system offers, but also understands that such an opportunity will create a highly destabilizing effect on the social and economic structures present on Earth. Despite his awareness of the potential inherent risks at hand in an indirect challenge to the “powers that be,” he decides that he ultimately should be the protagonist of this new and awesome space race and quickly puts himself to work, gathering the necessary resources—as well as the necessary allies, to start his amazing feat. Soon, however, our protagonist finds himself adrift in a path filled with a myriad of obstacles as he tries to reach his ambitious goal, and as word spreads of his discovery, Kolko must prepare himself for a showdown with enemies who are far more determined and ruthless in their opposition to his endeavor than he could have ever imagined. The adventures of our hero unravel in a crescendo of unexpected twists and turns, keeping the reader’s steadfast attention until the last page. “Kolko’s World” is an intricate work—a well-structured novel that combines action and strategy, “space opera” and social critique.
