Kickapoo Indian Dream Book by Healy & Bigelow
Requirements: .PDF reader, 23 mb
Overview: The Indians are firm believers in dreams. They think that the Great Spirit sends them these signs because of his watchfulness over their welfare. Dreams, to them, are of vital importance, and when an Indian dreams he at once consults the medicine (mystery) man of the tribe as to its interpretation. Thus, if an Indian dreams he is fighting a bear, and kills it, he is overjoyed, because it means to him that he will overcome some formidable foe; and if an Indian dreams he is passing an Indian burial-place, he knows that he will receive news from his friends ere long, and is filled with anticipations of the pleasure.

Every dream interpretation given in this book is of Indian origin, although many have been re-arranged to fit civilized surroundings; for instance, “ buckskin ” in the Indian dream must be interpreted “ linen ” for the white man—for, of course, a white person would not dream of being dressed in clean, new buck-skill garments; neither would the Indian perhaps dream of wearing white linen ; but the meaning of the two words, so far as their dream-value is concerned, is identical. If you will carefully study this book, and then note your dreams, you will be surprised to find how much truth there is in the claim that “dreams are real.”
