Jennifer Hodges/Warrior Queen Series (2-6, #8) by Stuart Collings
Requirements: ePUB / MOBI Reader, 4.2MB
Overview: This book series is intended to be read in order, and each book tends to build on the events or decisions that take place in the earlier books. Attempting to jump into the series midstream will undoubtedly prove to be difficult or annoying to any reader. Characters (and their personalities and foibles) that have already been established will seem odd or perhaps even unpleasant, causing the newbie reader to misinterpret the underlying intentions and themes in each of the books. Any potential reader should look upon the series as being snapshots and snippets of the lives of the central characters, therefore reading the previous books in the series is strongly encouraged. For those unwilling to read all of them, then limiting yourself to books one and three (and five if possible) will help immensely in allowing you to immerse yourself in the scenario and the characters, and the stories appearing in this book.

#2 – Creative Differences
As was told in the book And What of Earth?, a species of symbiotic aliens has appointed a human, Jennifer Hodges, the new Mother of the Wakira. She now finds herself on the homeworld of the Wakiran Empire, alone and cut off from her friends and family in Nebraska, with only her alien mate and her personal assistant to support her, and to help her transition from being a barbarian Terran to the second-most powerful person in this part of the galaxy. While many of her "children" love and obey her, she faces opposition from the very people she needs to help her in her new role — that of the protector of the Empire. She is keenly aware of the prophetic vision she had when the symbiote took residence in her mind. Billions of people will die because she won’t be ready. But instead of helping to prevent that devastation, Jennifer’s predecessor works to drive the one she considers to be an interloper back to her barbarian planet. Jennifer is left having to make life-or-death decisions without any help and with insufficient information. Will another insurrection bring death and destruction to the Empire, or can Jennifer somehow prevent the prophesied disaster?
#3 – Shadowfall
With the landing of an alien starship in the small town of Jewel Nebraska, a young Jennifer Hodges found herself the point of contact between humans and the Wakira. An unwanted bonding between Jennifer and the alien commander has led to Jennifer being forced to take on the role as Mother of the Wakira. (And What of Earth?).
Arriving at the alien capital, Jennifer’s efforts to take on the duties and responsibilities of her new role are hindered by the very people who were supposed to help her. With a prophesied disaster looming sometime in the future, their virtual rebellion risks the destruction of the Wakiran Empire and civilization. (Creative Differences)
The close approach of a giant gas planet will provide the people on the Wakiran homeworld with a once-in-a-lifetime spectacle — an eclipse that will last over an hour. But instead triggering a breathtaking experience, the close approach brings death and destruction to the inhabitants of Homeworld, and to the protective Home Fleet orbiting above the planet.
While Jennifer’s mate and her best friend struggle to survive against impossible odds in a crippled ship, Jennifer is trapped under the Imperial Palace along with hundreds of Wakira. But in that group, is one who is determined to ensure that Jennifer does not survive the ordeal.
#4 – Imperfect Reflection
Jennifer Hodges was a young nurse in the town of Jewel Nebraska when aliens known as the Wakira landed their starship just behind the back yard of her father’s house. As point of first contact, Jennifer soon found herself our only hope to survive the encounter, and the Wakira discovered that she was their only hope to avoid a gender-based civil war.
Not everyone in the Wakiran Empire are happy to have an alien as their new mother-figure. A faction, known as the Brotherhood, are determined to assassinate her and to upend the very foundation of the Wakiran civilisation. While outside the borders of the Empire, other civilisations are considering the possibility of attacking the Wakira during this period of transition.
Either threat — gender civil war or all-out war with the civilisations surrounding the Wakira — can be the trigger that brings about the disaster that was prophesied when Jennifer became Mother of the Wakira. Tens of billions of her children dead. And it will be Jennifer’s fault.
Her days are spent trying to learn how to fit in with the people around her, and learning everything that she can to perform the tasks her role demands. All the while, she does everything that she can to prevent the prophecy from coming true.
If she fails, it’ll be the end of the Wakira. And if the legend of the One Who is to Come is true, it’ll mean the end of everything.
#5 – And What of Honor?
In 2018, the Wakira landed in a small Nebraska town, ostensibly to conduct a survey of Terran civilization and history. They were befriended by a young nurse, Jennifer Hodges. Due to unforeseen events, Jennifer was compelled to return to their interstellar empire and take up the role of Great Mother, where she is responsible for the care and nurturing of over 100 billion Wakira and with the defense of the Empire.
It’s a difficult adjustment for her — being thrust into an alien environment had initially left her homesick and filled with self-doubt. The adjustment was made more difficult due to the efforts of her predecessor who strove to drive her back to Earth. Now that she has established herself and her place in the Wakiran hierarchy and society, she now faces challenges from outside of the Empire, and from within.
A secret organization known as the Brotherhood is trying to assassinate Jennifer to rid the Empire of what they see is an alien imposter, and to overthrown millennia of tradition — a gender-based balance of power. But even the Brotherhood has conspiracies within it. The leadership of the group is overthrown and a dangerous disastrous scheme is launched against Jennifer and the Imperial Family.
They intend to do the unthinkable in a brazen attempt to seize control of the Empire. And in order to cope with the disaster, an omen is realized as Jennifer is forced to become an abomination in the eyes of the people.
#6 – And What of Home?
The story thus far: Jennifer Hodges was a nursing assistant in a small town in rural Nebraska, who became the point of first contact with an alien civilization. After befriending the alien commander, a series of seemingly inexplicable events puts Jennifer in a powerful role within the Wakiran Empire, as many see her as being the long-prophesied One Who is to Come.
A secret organization known as the Brotherhood is plotting to overthrow the Wakiran government and seize power, in order to establish male domination in the Empire. They make multiple attempts on Jennifer’s life, the last one results in the assassination of the Emperor, throwing the entire Empire into turmoil and chaos. Only Jennifer is in a position to try and hold the Empire together and prevent its descent into a gender-based civil war.
#8 – Circles
The Wakiran Empire has just finished fighting a war with 7 of its neighbors (Book 7). In this book, we see the aftermath, and the consequences of the war, both short-term and long-term. Questions that have arisen throughout the series are answered: who are the symbiotes, why do they interfere with the Wakiran Empire and its society, why did they choose Jennifer to become the Mother of the Wakira, was Jennifer the prophesied One Who is to Come? Characters that we have grown to know over the series take their leave of us, as Jennifer enters old age, and watches friends and family members die one after another.
