1. Gateways to Pilgrimage
Res Mysticum is an ethereal world, and a deadly one. In Res Mysticum you might become a vampire, but only if you deserve it. Murderous tyrants rule the west, murderous pirates roam the southern coast, and a colony of supernaturally powerful monks lives in a giant tree in the heart of the jungle.
Doran Kane knows none of this. He is bookish and analytical, and his life in the City of Axbridge is perfectly safe—that is, until the tyrants from the west infiltrate Axbridge and kill the people Doran loves most. The tragedy sends Doran fleeing into a wilderness teeming with dangers he never knew existed and that his skeptical mind struggles to accept.
