Book 1 – Zoya
Zoya wakes up to find herself slunk over the execution table, an axe hovering above her neck, she makes a narrow escape out of the supreme court, daring to steal the emperor’s horse to aid her escape. It’s a close one, arrows whoosh past her and one lodges itself in her side, creating a deep wound that oozes blood. She doesn’t dare stop her escape, galloping forth into the city for nearly half a day. She believes her father will explain what exactly is amiss.
Book 2 – The Grendel
Zoya’s hair whistles in the wind as she goes farther away from the place she had called home for the past 21 years. The outskirts are nothing like she expected.The vast and empty space is plagued with deadly monsters hungry for blood. Her steps don’t falter, she knows it’s either this or unjustified death. Before long, she meets her first confrontation, a Grendel. It slinks around with a foul odor and a hard shell that proves to be impregnable.
A stranger joins her in the battle and together they bring down the beast but not before uttering some strange words that leave her wary. “One truth is sought, but many shall be revealed.”
Book 3 – Zilian
Zoya journeys with the stranger and they stay at a small cottage for the night. The stranger, Zilian, a girl who was just a few years younger than her, grabs her arm and they make a narrow escape into the forest. Zoya is rushed into the home and the people who look to be Zilian’s parents treat her injury and apply new sets of bandages to it. When she feels all better, she tells the family about what brought her outside the outskirts of the kingdom – The Eyes of Truth. With unsure glances, the family tells her they know how to find it
Book 4 – Journey to the Eyes of Truth
They have dinner first before telling her about the eyes of truth. They admitted that they themselves had gone in search of it after they had been banished but what nobody told them was that it was like a game. They explained that when a person decided to go in search of the Eyes of Truth, the person was given 10 days to find it by the eyes of truth itself. There were no second chances, and if one was not able to find it before the time elapsed, the Eyes of Truth will never reveal itself to such a person. However, they would have to stop by Baba Veer’s house for he had the most experience from the hunt, losing an eye and limb to some fearsome creatures.
Book 5 – Baba Veer
Baba Veer wasted no time in discouraging them. He tried to convince them that it was of no use but the duo wouldn’t budge. Seeing this, he reluctantly Just like the couple instructed, Zoya and Zilian kept to the maps as they started their journey. It was a messily drawn map and they still encountered some creatures along the journey.
Book 6 – The Eyes of Truth
With dwindling courage and bodies decorated with injuries, the 2 finally stumble into a cave. They decide to hide in it for much-needed rest but as they stumble in, a purple glowing light leading to an ethereal garden startled them out of their fatigue. They had found the Eyes of Truth. Zoya gets dizzy with visions of her truth. Zoya wakes up with power surging through her veins. She tells Zilian of her discovery and Zilian confirms it.
Together, they journey back to their parents.
Book 7 – Truth Wins All
Before the eyes of truth, all barriers are broken. The couple is overjoyed at their return. Together, they go back to the kingdom and present the Eyes of Truth at the supreme court. The king is detained and the real heirs take the throne. Zoya chooses to let go of the grudge she held against her father. The kingdom is reclaimed, that’s the greatest joy.
