Overview: D.J. Russo is a Philadelphian native who grew up on a steady diet of science fiction films, Jim Henson, and fantasy stories. It’s probably why her work tends to fall on the weirder side. Her debut novella, Abduction Seduction, was directly inspired by her trip to Dragon Con in Atlanta. Yes, the parts about the Flying Spaghetti Monster hanging out with Jesus are real. She currently lives in a small village in the Netherlands with her husband, dog, and two cats.

On the first day of Chimera Con, the biggest fan con in North America, my boyfriend of five years dumps me over a text. I’m furious and heartbroken, of course, but there’s no way I’m spending the entire con inside my hotel room. I’m prepared to grin and bear it while I fly solo for the weekend.
But then I meet Aiden.
Aiden is sweet, charismatic, and inquisitive. It also doesn’t hurt that he’s hot as hell and into the same stuff as I am. When he introduces me to his equally attractive friends, Sara and Wes, my weekend does a one-eighty. I’m fully prepared for several nights of fun hookups, but something is… off about the trio. My new friends harbor a secret so strange it’s otherworldly.

Life in the Netherlands is peaceful. Boring, even. I wake up, go to class, then head to my shift at the cafe. Afterward, I come back home to either sleep or study. If I’m feeling particularly bold, I might even watch a television show or two. Nevermind the fact that I’m lonely as hell, my ex took all our friends in the breakup, and I haven’t gotten laid in forever. But then he crash lands into my life. Literally. A purple monster from outer space with horns, wings, and a tail. I’m terrified, of course. But he needs my help and evidently we’re stuck with each other until he can get somewhere safer. It doesn’t hurt that he’s easy on the eyes and fun to be around, even if he’s not even human.

I refuse to be a slave any longer. Growing up on T’Jirra, I always knew my fate would never be my own. Taking my life into my own claws, I escape the only planet I’ve ever known and head straight into the black void. Destination: anywhere far, far away from my captors. When I land on a Section-9 planet called Earth, I end up in a human female’s living room. She’s stunning to behold, but prickly. Very prickly. But until I can figure out a way to get off this planet, we’re stuck together. For better or worse.
