Austerity & Democracy in Athens: Crisis and Community in Exarchia By Monia Cappuccini
Requirements: ePUB Reader,PDF Reader, 5.6 MB
Overview: This book, based on an empirical form of narration, outlines a short-medium term analysis of the social impact of austerity politics on urban life.. Set in Exarchia, a radical and anti-authoritarian neighbourhood located within the city centre of Athens, Greece, this is an ethnography examining the social struggles and grassroots mobilizations that emerged locally during the crisis.
Based on over two years of fieldwork between November 2012 and early 2014, the author brings together participant observation and a period of research-action in one of Exarchia’s stekia. One particular pedestrian street is used as a case study – ‘Odos Tsamadou’ is located near Exarchia Square and here multiple social centres and political activity converge to allow the neighbourhood’s climate of solidarity and reciprocity to fully emerge. This book is specifically targeted at academics specialized in the social sciences, ethnography, cultural anthropology and urban studies and more generally at anyone interested in contemporary urban and social development.

Animal Kingdom: A Natural History in 100 Objects by Jack Ashby
Requirements: ePUB Reader, 39,3 MB
Overview: From a single beginning, countless millions of stories from the animal kingdom have – and continue to – run their course.
Museum objects allow us to investigate some of those stories. Animal Kingdom journeys through both the evolutionary history of animals, and the ways that people have interpreted them in museums. Animals in museums are not only representatives of their entire species, but they also tell us something about the time in which they were collected. They provide windows into the past as well as data for the present. They embody centuries of natural ecosystems and human cultures.
Through a selection of 100 objects, telling 100 stories, this beautifully illustrated book explores the diversity of animal life over the past 600 million years, and delves into some of the most exciting mechanisms in evolution. By understanding some of the key stories of how nature operates, we can gain amazing insight into the systems underlying life itself.

The Worm Book For Beginners: A Vermiculture Starter or How To Be A Backyard Worm Farmer And Make The Best Natural Compost From Worms by Frank Randall (Backyard Farm Books)
Requirements: MOBI Reader, 327 KB
Overview: Free Gift with Every Purchase! All purchasers are now entitled to download a brand new bonus, The Backyard Farm Book of Butterfly Gardening – absolutely FREE! (See back of book for details) Hello! Thankyou for taking the time to look at my book. Are you tired of hearing about the awful effects of chemical-based fertilizer on your local environment? If so, would you like to find another way? Well, your search is over! The best way to avoid the hassles of chemical fertilizers is to make your own organic fertilizer at home – all you need is a worm bin. Worm composting (or vermicomposting/vermiculture) is the practice of using worms to break down kitchen scraps, and to turn those scraps into nutrient-rich garden compost. It is an ecologically sound way to eat healthier foods, throw away less waste and spend less money. I have written this step by step guide on worm composting for all of those who are tired of gardening with harmful chemicals. In its pages, you will find out how many worms you need and what kind. You will also find out how to obtain and maintain your worm bin. What bedding will your worms like? How do you make that bedding? What foods can your worms eat? What foods are hazardous to them? How do you keep pests out of your worm bin? The answers to all of those questions and more will be revealed. Most importantly, my book will tell you when and how to harvest your compost for use in the garden. You’ll be amazed at all of the benefits that vermicomposting can offer, whether you’re dealing with seeds, seedlings or full-sized garden plants. This easy to read, beginners book, summarizes the essential information I have learned over the years, and is written to help you integrate worm composting in to your daily routine.

The Rationale Behind Homesteading: The Key To Self Sufficiency by Dahlia Smith
Requirements: MOBI Reader, 263 KB
Overview: The Rationale Behind Homesteading: The Key To Self Sufficiency" will help the reader to not only understand the concepts that surround the process of homesteading, but to learn how to implement them as well. This process is not as complex as many individuals may think and can be achieved in relatively small spaces. The great thing is that someone does not have to adopt all the principles of homesteading, rather do what they can to be somewhat self sustainable — like growing their own herbs and vegetables. The individual can even make other changes to become more of an urban homesteader like converting to solar energy and canning and storing food. In this society many persons are seeking viable solutions to keep within their budget, or even to lower their current budget. This is one of the best methods that you can use to be able to cut the ever-rising costs. This text gives some great tips on how this can be achieved.
