Requirements: EPUB Reader, 0.5MB
Overview: Michael A. Hooten was born in Dallas, TX, moved to Florida for college, dropped out and joined the Navy, who sent him to Illinois, then Virginia, and finally back to Florida. He left the service and crossed the nation to Utah, where he lives with his wife (who hails from Brooklyn, NY), three rambunctious sons, a cat, two dogs, and a couple of house guests. He works as an electronic engineer, mostly designing electronics that test other electronics. It’s a busy life, but he manages to carve out a little time to keep writing (usually late at night or during his lunch breaks).
Genre: Fantasy
Book 1: Wizard’s Heir
Gwydion ap Don is a talented harpist, and a known rogue. But his Uncle Math sees something more: a young man with the magical talent to succeed him as Lord Gwynedd. But to learn magic, Gwydion will also have to learn self-control, duty, honor, and the martial arts. He’s not sure which will be the hardest. And when his training in magic begins in earnest, his whole world will change, as well as how he sees himself.
Based on the ancient Welsh myths from the Mabinogion, but set in the world of Cricket’s Song, this new series looks at one of the three great bards of Glencairck, Gwydion. But long before he became a great bard, he had to learn how to be a good man. This is the story of how his uncle tries to temper him into a leader, and a suitable heir.
Book 2: The Two Tanists
Gwydion has been named Tanist of Gwynedd, full heir of Math ap Mathonwy, and able to act in his name, but winning the approval of the people is a different matter. He also has to learn how to control and talk to the winds before they drive him crazy.
And just when he starts to think he is gaining control of his life, his cousin Gilventhy comes to him to ask for help winning the love of Math’s foot holder, and promises to help him win the heart of Arianrhod in return. All it will take is a little war…
Book 3: The Bardic Academy
Caer Dathyl is in ruins, Math is dead, and Gwydion has been judged–and found innocent. It does not ease his guilt, however, and when the Pen Bardd gives him the option of giving up his Cymric powers and becoming a bard, he accepts.
But it is not as easy as the Pen Bardd thinks, and Gwydion enters the Bardic Academy with his Cymric powers intact. As a student, he is given a new name, Fidgen, and a journey that will take him to the five fifths of Glencairck and beyond. He will fight for the right to wear the Star of the Bards using music, magic, swords, and shape shifting. And he will battle himself as well, to be the man he wants to be, and not the monster he fears he might become.
