Overview: Coronavirus will have an impact for the next ten or twenty years. This could either be through its seriousness, the exponential loss of life, or due to the draconian responses. By the end of September, 2020, the UK government had banned playing music above eighty-five decibels, while in Scotland public singing and dancing were prohibited. Early on, it was thought that the culture wars would fizzle out. After all, the prospects of catching a killer disease make arguments over using the correct personal pronouns seem irrelevant, if not an effrontery to the families of the deceased. Contrary to expectations not long passed before this battle of ideas intensified. In this short work, Mike Healey looks into how woke became mainstream during the Covid crisis.
