Wil has arrived at his sixty-fifth birthday after a directionless, purposeless, largely friendless lifetime. In the little village of Wisdom which sits close against the Old Forest, the last refuge of the elves before they departed this realm, he finds a place where he finally feels at home working as the assistant of the village swineherd, Scrubby.
On the other side of the Principality of Gleneagle, the wizard Greyleige has been hoarding the world’s fading magic with the intent of achieving the eternal life of the departed elves. The ruling prince’s daughter, Princess Caron, has been tracking Greyleige’s machinations, convinced that he is the danger to the balance of good and evil in the world that was foretold in the family scrolls which were written by their elven ancestors before their departure centuries earlier.
Fate has put Wil, Caron, Scrubby, and Greyleige on a collision course that will determine whether or not evil will overbalance goodness and plunge the world into a future of endless terror and despair.
2. Princess of Wisdom – Four years after Wil’s confrontation with Greyleige, the evil vaporized in the collision of magics atop the tower at the center of Blackstone has begun to coalesce and float to earth, corrupting any person it touches.
A large clot of the darkness gives access to the true source of the horrifying creatures summoned by Greyleige from the other side of the boundary in his bid to control the world and attain immortality.
In the intervening years, Wil’s powers have grown enormously and the Old Forest will not allow him to leave because his power would be a danger to the world if corrupted by the touch of one of the darknesses floating to earth.
Because he is unable to leave the Old Forest, Wil must find another way to battle the evil which has found its way to his side of the boundary between the worlds.
3. Children of Wisdom – It has been twenty years since Styxis was sealed off from this world by Wil and Caron on the demoness’s side of the boundary.
Though separated and living in ignorance of each other’s lives as they grew up, the fortunes of Princess Caron’s three children—Alexander, her son with Roland, and Aimee and Desirée, the life-spark sisters from her coupling with Wil—converge in a twist of fate as they set off individually to explore the world when they arrive at their twentieth birthdays.
The three become entangled in each other’s lives quite by accident by events set in motion by one of Styxis’s creatures who has been tasked with tracking down the demoness’s daughter, Desirée, who had been spirited away by the changeling, Plaisir, shortly before the temporary portal was closed.
In a desperate race against time, Wil must save Caron and the children from this attempt by Styxis to finally take the Wizard of Wisdom as her own.
