Winter of Passion is a romantic tale of Elizabeth and Darcy finding their happily ever after a few months later than in the original. It could be described as a journey from a sweet courtship to a ‘forced marriage’ scenario, except that the marriage is most wanted by both Elizabeth and Darcy, it is only the circumstances that are forcing it.
The story begins in the winter of 1812 at Netherfield. The former Jane Bennet has finally married her beloved Charles Bingley, and the newly wedded couple is hosting a series of parties and balls, to which they have invited a large party of friends from London. Among them is Mr Darcy, as well as his sister and his cousin Colonel Fitzwilliam.
Overwhelmed by her new responsibilities, Jane asks Elizabeth to stay at Netherfield and help her. But whilst Elizabeth of course rejoices in her sister’s felicity, she is also trying to mend her own broken heart.
After meeting Mr Darcy at Pemberley in the summer and having the chance to see him in a different light, Elizabeth’s opinion of him improved and her feelings changed, to the point where she regretted her rejection of his marriage proposal and hoped for a renewal of their relationship. Such hopes were, however, shattered, and her delightful time in Derbyshire ended abruptly at the news of Lydia’s elopement with Mr Wickham.
Since then, not a day has passed by without her thinking about Darcy, wondering about his feelings, and wishing to see him again.
Such an opportunity eventually arises, and she is equally thrilled and frightened by it.
When they are finally reunited, Elizabeth and Darcy realise that, while her feelings and desires have changed since the failed marriage proposal, his have remained the same; in fact, they have grown even stronger.
Tentative at first, Elizabeth and Darcy’s relationship blossoms quickly, hidden from everyone else. While growing closer to each other, neither of them is ready to reveal their love to others just yet. So they must find ways to keep up appearances and maintain propriety whilst nurturing their mutual affection and stealing moments of sweet passion.
Netherfield Manor is full of illustrious guests with titles, fortunes, and connections, but some of them — both ladies and gentlemen — are also proficient at deception and depravity.
Once wedded and travelling from Hertfordshire to London, winter will still challenge them with new obstacles, testing their strength, fortitude, and generosity. A journey of a few hours will turn into two days of danger, turmoil, and repressed passion, making the beginning of their happy marriage as thrilling and tumultuous as the beginning of their relationship.
