Overview: A passion for literature began in the early stages of Kellan Najima’s childhood, starting with the Dr. Suess’, The Cat in The Hat. She then dived into chapter books, with Goosebumps, Fear Street, and The Babysitter’s Club being her favorites. Later, in her early adolescent years, Kellan Najima was introduced to Urban Fiction, fell in love with the genre, and a seed was planted.
With tons of urban novels available at local libraries and book stands in Downtown Brooklyn, Kellan Najima grew inspired and dared to pen her own at the age of 12. With no experience and a limited vocabulary, she wrote anyway. She received feedback from friends at school, but only one feedback took her writing to the next level. Her 8th grade teacher, Mrs. Roberts, read the manuscript hidden in her desk, and gave 14 year old Kellan Najima the greatest advice. “Don’t limit yourself. Free yourself through your writing.”
