Who Invented the Periodic Table? (Breakthroughs in Science and Technology) by Nigel Saunders and Nicholas Saunders
Requirements: ePUB Reader, 8,1 MB
Overview: Part of the "Breakthroughs in Science and Technology" series, Saunders investigates the building of the periodic table from the work of ancient alchemists and early chemists in the 1660s to Dimitri Mendeleev’s triumphant findings in 1869.
After that, Saunders showed how other chemists tested and verified Mendeleev’s table. This invention, like many that are covered in this interesting series, did not come about easily or directly.
The process of building on other people’s work is as much the story as the eventual success, and an excellent example of science as the continuum it is. Saunders does not simplify the problems, but he does provide enough tidbits to make each of the historical figures intriguing.
Each chapter fits into an attractive two-page spread, along with photos, diagrams and short sidebars.
This book will work well for both history and science discussions. Backmatter includes glossary, further information, and an index.
Genre: Non Fiction , Science
