Requirements: epub reader, 1.3 MB
Overview: Heather Horrocks is an author who had a somewhat unorthodox upbringing. She was raised in South America and the Middle East and wrote her first stories as a teenager in Kuwait. She wrote her first novel in three months on a typewriter when she was 21. She wrote sporadically until her youngest child (who is now 18) was two, when she decided it was time to either actually start writing, or to stop saying she was a writer. So she took a class and started doing the scary things that writing requires. Now she’s written about twelve novels and several children’s books. She lives with her witty husband Mark and funny little dog Gus.
Genre: Mystery
1. Snowed Inn (2011)
Mystery buff Vicki Butler plans to kill someone this weekend—nothing personal, just business. The killer grand opening weekend at her new Who-Dun-Him Inn is all fun and games—until an unplanned dead body makes an appearance. With a murderer running loose, young widowed mom Vicki is forced to keep her family, guests, and actors safe while searching for clues. Her author guests, also the prime suspects, try their hand at solving this real-life whodunit, in the process hindering the investigation by local law enforcement officers. Things really go downhill when her twin, Liz, shows up, trailed by flamboyant Grandma Ross, who announces she’s seeking a boy toy among the suspects. When both a local younger man and an out-of-town newshound start sniffing around the inn—and her—Vicki realizes she’s got more than just a murderer to worry about. Can she solve the mystery before the killer strikes again? Or will this case of opening-night jitters prove to be terminal?
2. Inn the Doghouse (2013)
When single mom and mystery buff Vicki Butler pays a visit to her husband’s grave, she stumbles across the body of her twin sister Liz’s estranged husband—the same brother-in-law she argued with just yesterday.
Since Vicki is caught standing next to the body and her sister stands to inherit millions in her dead husband’s will, the twins suddenly find themselves “persons of interest.” Will they identify the real murderer in time to avoid the slammer? Or are they about to learn firsthand just how many innocent people one doghouse can hold?
