Wars Without End Series by David Collins (1-5)
Requirements: epub reader, 2.5 mb
Overview: I am a former software engineer writing science fiction and fantasy novels. I am attempting to write what starts as hard science fiction (but with elements like FTL). I am also trying to develop alien characters who are different from the usual generic pulp ones. Most of my stories include some humorous elements.
Genre: Sci-Fi/Fantasy

1. The 2,000 Year War – The war between different alien groups lasted for over 2,300 years. But Keith Robinson didn’t know anything about that. He assumed that the job he had applied for was to work on an Arctic research ship. He thought that he would be assembling parts for upgraded sonar buoys. He thought wrong.
The AI on the derelict spaceship was open to lying if that could finally get the ship repaired. Hiring a repair technician from the primitive planet Earth was a crazy plan. And even crazier, it worked.
After salvaging an alien ship, Keith now finds himself the ship’s owner. But something is deadly wrong in the depths of space. With the help of a temperamental AI, Keith then manages to rescue several alien refugees from stasis pods on damaged ships.
They head off to one more promising location to try, a supposedly minor mining station so insignificant that they had hoped the war had missed it.
They were out of luck.

2. The Second War – After leaving the medical chamber, Keith thought the long war was over. He had united two warring factions and identified the culprit behind the earlier devastating war. A xenophobic race that was out to destroy all the other races.
The problem was that they didn’t like that he had uncovered their deception, and they were out for revenge.
Then the Earth sent their “secret weapon” out to him. Something that could possibly beat the Meduala at their own game. Unfortunately, her daughter insisted on coming out too.
Much of his earlier success was based on help from the AI on his patched-up former delict spacecraft. Getting it updated seemed like a good idea. Adding more processing power to an unlocked AI should make it even better. That was the idea. What could go wrong? (he soon finds out)
Then they went out exploring the area in the new and improved ship. They found some unexpected aliens. And then some different aliens found them. They discovered that the Meduala were terrified of the new aliens.… It turns out that they had a reason to be…

3. Convention War – The Earth Space Force Military has a problem. Something so dangerous that they need the ultimate distraction. A way to keep all the news stations away from it. They need them to focus on it rather than the massive alien ‘thing’ being lowered into a pit in the desert near Area 51.
They have decided that Keith and nine of his crew will be that distraction. They choose to drop off Keith, the hero starship captain, and a bunch of alien women off at Comic-Con for a surprise appearance.
That is one of their problems. They also encounter several new and very dangerous alien races and must deal with them.
And then there is the problem with the Meduala. The snake-haired aliens are led by an all-female group of Royal Meduala, much more powerful than the normal ones. They have taken a very special interest in Keith.
Is there any way to end the Wars Without Ends? And what will Keith have to do to earn the favor of the most powerful Meduala, the queen?

4. The Giant War – The Earth Space Force Military has a huge problem. The massive alien Ogre that they had earlier fought was only an immature little one. The full-grown ones had found some derelict starships and were about to find one with an FTL drive.
Keith and his crew were tasked to sneak in and destroy the derelict that contained an FTL drive before the Ogres could find it. To do that, the Meduala sent them a living weapon to assist with the battle. One that the Meduala has spent thousands of years trying to deal with. Is the new weapon more of a problem than the Ogres?
The Ghost Ships that contacted Earth and requested this mission were hiding something critical. They also insist that this mission use only obsolete technology ships that they provided. As soon as the mission starts, all communications are unexpectedly severed. There is no phoning home for rescue. The Ogres spot them almost as soon as they arrive. The small arms they were permitted to carry are no match for an 18-foot-tall Ogre in an armored spacesuit carrying a 350-pound battle exe.

5. The Bug War – The Ogres seemed to be ‘monsters,’ but they were monsters that could be reasoned with—as long as you understood what motivated them.
Several new aliens have now joined the fray:
One that seems helpful and friendly, but something from its past may have kicked over a hornet’s nest—a really nasty threat that hasn’t been seen in centuries.
A new race may be the most dangerous they have encountered. They have a weapon against which they have no defense.
To top it all off, a massive swarm of intelligent insectoid aliens has been expanding, and their former enemies, the Meduala, are now squarely in the path of the bug’s expansion.
Keith has to solve this new puzzle carefully, and none of the pieces are fitting. Time is running out.
