Richie’s addled mind has him slipping in and out of the past, wandering along the highways that brought him to Alaska.
He speaks of a time before the sun began its feast upon the earth. Richie talks of his friends and how they decided that the best place to be was anywhere but home. He tells of their preparations and their lack of experience. We see Elvis at the beach, running toward a boiling Gulf of Mexico and the care that had to be taken afterward.

Richie walking with Amanda, who finally wakes to travel and talk with him. The fears he holds onto without knowing if his sanity will ever reattach to reality’s pavement linger beneath his shattered features. They talk. They head toward home.

The past is waiting to be explained and Richie will do his best to quiet the voices in his head by telling it to his friend and the night. The first meeting with a man who wants what they have. The mines and beginning a life lived underground during the day.
Richie will be pushed to the very limits of reality and finally have to make a choice. Who will he have to kill to keep his soul?
