Overview: These six volumes record Captain George Vancouver’s voyage of discovery 1790-95 in which he primarily explored and mapped the north-west coast of North America.
Although Vancouver followed in the footsteps of Captain James Cook, his voyage ranks among the most notable such explorations of the Age of Sail. Vancouver died shortly after returning to England, and his brother John completed this publication from George’s manuscripts and notes.
Volume 5: December 1793 – July 1794 covers:
Returned to Sandwich Islands (Hawai’i) for winter—Returned to North America—Explored the Alaskan coast near Cook Inlet and Prince William Sound.
