Overview: In Viper, a widower detective hunts his wife’s killer via time travel.
A young NYPD detective’s young wife is murdered. He grieves her murder and investigates the case unofficially, as his superiors think his mental state would hinder the proceedings. He comes to the conclusion that a drifter murdered her, and he attempts to find the man. He scours the city and the country, using all of his available resources before coming up empty-handed.
He is contacted by Dr. Putnam, a Harvard theoretical physicist, who tells him of his labs being raided around the same time of the murder. The detective visits the lab and matches DNA in the lab to the DNA on the bullets. The item stolen, he is told, was a time travel device, and the doctor concluded that the man disappeared into Time itself. The detective demands another device, which the doctor says is located in Washington, D.C. The two arrive there and the detective travels to the time set on the last device:
April 15th, 1865.
The detective isn’t the only one hunting the drifter. A ruthless FBI investigator learns of the time devices and the role they play on the manhunt, and the FBI subsequently chases both men through Time.
The battle that ensues between the detective and the drifter consumes the most significant events in the prior two hundred years, reaching an epic conclusion that may very well alter history itself.
