Vaz by Laurence Dahners (Vaz, #1)

Overview: Vaz is the story of Vaz Gettnor, a scientifically brilliant but socially inept man who falls somewhere on the Asperger’s/Autism spectrum. He verges on the nature of an “idiot savant,” having a very low emotional quotient but absolute brilliance in science/physics/chemistry.
Vaz is struggling to get his company to let him do the research he loves instead of working on the drudgery projects they assign him. He barely recognizes that the company is cashing in on his inventions while paying him a pittance and giving him no respect.
But then… a new manager fires him without realizing just how important Vaz is to the company’s bottom line.
Once fired he joyfully finds himself free to work on the research he wants to work on at home, instead of what his managers assign him to do. He has a lead on a Low Energy Nuclear Reaction (cold fusion) that fascinates him.
Meanwhile back at the company some decide that they can force Vaz to rehire, or to give up even more rights to his existing inventions. They make the mistake of assuming that his social ineptness somehow means that he won’t be able to protect himself or his family. That assumption is a serious mistake—with enough scientific know how, almost anything can become a weapon.
