Utility Planet 2016: Hear the World on Short Wave Utility Radio (Utility Planet Compilations) by Hugh Stegman
Requirements: .ePUB reader, 2.6 MB
Overview: This book contains all 2016 Utility Planet columns first published in The Spectrum Monitor, a monthly e-zine which has rapidly become the eminent publication of its sort in the United States. We have the notorious short wave “numbers” stations, the U-2 spy plane, quite a few military units, and radiofaxes used to help keep ships out of trouble. These are explained with technical details that help cut through the jargon and ultra-technical specs that make modern radio systems so opaque to most people.
While I compiled these, I was struck by how much good information has been put together here. We have details on where to hear the action in several popular areas of HF utility DXing, and how to make sense of it. The material has been updated in short comments where this was deemed necessary. The book also contains most of the images that ran along with the columns, and quite a number of new ones that no one’s seen before.
This is the second such compilation. 2014 is also available. 2015 is coming, but I wanted to get 2016 out first because it’s so timely. Good DX!.
