Under Milk Wood: BBC Radio Drama Binaural Mix by Dylan Thomas
Requirements: .M4A/.M4B reader, 85MB
Overview: This is the 2003 production of the classic ‘play for voices’, celebrating the centenary of the birth of Dylan Thomas.
Richard Burton’s unforgettable 1963 performance as First Voice is remixed with Sian Phillips as Second Voice and an all-Welsh cast, including early appearances by Ruth Jones and Matthew Rhys, and a cameo role from John Humphrys.
The play is a comic, affectionate and mischievous portrait of a day in the life of the mythical Welsh village of Llareggub (bugger all spelled backwards) and has become one of the most famous radio plays ever written.
Groundbreaking from its first performance in New York City in 1953, the play won the Prix Italia for its innovative style in its first BBC recording 60 years ago.
Touching, eerie and very funny, the play tells the story of a day in the life of the inhabitants of a small Welsh seaside town, their dreams and routines, their loves and regrets, their hopes and fears.
With characters and phrases that have entered common parlance, the play opens with ‘To begin at the beginning’ and features such much-loved characters as No Good Boyo, Lilly Smalls, Polly Garter, Organ Morgan, and Captain Cat. Among the all-Welsh cast are Siân Phillips, Matthew Rhys and Glyn Houston, as well as a special guest appearance by John Humphrys.
With an entrancing new musical score by John Hardy, this production is set to become the classic version of a spellbinding play.
This production was streamed in stereo, 5.1 surround sound and binaural surround.

This is the Binaural surround version, made to be listened to using headphones. Everyone’s hearing is different & for best results in-ear buds should get you the most accurate surround effect. I personally hate ear-buds so I wear over-ear cans & I find that for me, I hear little to no surround effect. However it does sound way more widescreen and outside of the head.
