Overview: Dave Hazel was born in Niagara Falls, NY and stayed there until the US Air Force took him away at the age of 18. After 13 years in the Air Force he decided to stay in Rapid City, SD with his wonderful wife Deb where they raised 6 great kids. The kids have all moved on to raise their own families bringing 6 grandchildren into the picture so far. (He sounds old – but not in his head). Dave doesn’t consider himself to be a writer, but rather he’s a story-teller. He loves to tell stories, and he likes to tell the stories in a way to make the reader feel like they’re sitting down listening to an old friend.

1. 37 Days In A Strange World
Mykal and his friends find out how dark human nature can become. The bond of brotherhood forged in blood brings a closeness that can only be experienced in desperate trying times when lives are on the line. Like a refiner’s fire to remove impurities from precious metals, the fires of war remove selfishness changing each to willingly lay down his life for his brother. A love for the brotherhood grows strongest when the furnace burns hottest.
With death all around them and facing near death experiences daily, Mykal and his close friends recognize the transformation that occur in them in just a short period of time. Attitudes change, humor turns dark, life becomes cheap. The love of family keeps Mykal grounded and focused. Without the anchor of love to keep him in place his ship would be lost, never to return mentally and emotionally.
37 Days in a Strange World doesn’t seem like a long time but at times it is an eternity with no end in sight. The struggles, the trials, the uncertainty, the unknown, the heartaches and loss seem like more than any one person can bear. Add to that strange creatures, odd superstitious beliefs of an enemy who lives to torture and kill and you have 888 hours of amped up excitement, running-for-your-life action, all to hopefully make it back home.
2. Mykal’s Return to Towbar’s World
Mykal Graves is back to Towbar’s world in order to rescue people who have disappeared and have been sent to that extremely dangerous and deadly place.
Mykal Graves is ‘made an offer he can’t refuse’ and is forced back to Towbar’s world on a mission to specifically rescue certain people and to also bring home those who were left behind during the first trip to Towbar’s world.
To accomplish such an impossible task Mykal brings a small army of elite soldiers from around the world to pull off the greatest rescue ever. Mykal uses the army to help Towbar’s people and the Dwarven people of the Finger Mountains who await the war to end all wars with the Sosos and their allies who will join them from around the world.
Mykal and those with him must go behind enemy lines to rescue those who are lost and are suffering greatly at the hands of the cruel Sosos. Mykal’s mission takes a strange turn that will take him on an extended journey where he will encounter strange creatures in deadly lands and find great treasurers of wonderful magic.
3. Mykal’s Deadly Perambulation
With no chance of making it back to the Pass where Towbar and the rest of Towbar One are located, the Lost Patrol agreed to change plans and to go on the hunt for Zizmon-Tarl to “take out” Zizmon-Tarl once and for all.
During the Deadly Perambulation they encountered strange creatures, formidable foes and even made friends with some of the locals from that side of the world who are Elves and human adventurers. If that weren’t enough, Mykal also discovered that the powers to be in the government behind his mission to rescue the people transported to Towbar’s world want him silenced after his mission is completed.
While all this takes place Mykal discovers magic is real and he begins to understand how the magic items in his possession are beginning to change him and his personality. Mykal knows he must make some drastic choices to keep himself alive and to keep himself sane.
4. Mykal’s Second Deadly Journey
Another dangerous and deadly adventure to the other side of Towbar’s world. Mykal is on a mission to rescue the Princess Doninka who had been captured by the forces of Zizmon-Tarl during the battle to take over the land of Labins. Zizmon-Tarl sent his special mix of forces; dragons, Goblins and other creature to assist the Sosos in their long time quest to conquer Towbar’s land. To help Towbar’s people the President of the United States sent Towbar One, a mix of special elite forces from around the world that include US Marines, US Army Green Berets, Army Rangers, US Navy SEALs, United Kingdom Royal Marines, SAS, Korean Special Forces, French Foreign Legion, Canadian Special Service Forces, Australian SAS, Special Units from the Soviet Union and others. The special blend of elite forces make up Towbar One sent on a mission to rescue Towbar’s people; Operation Towbar’s Sword.
When Mykal had returned to the real world to acquire more forces; men, weapons, ammunition and supplies, dragons flew into the Pass in search of the Princess Doninka. The goal was to ransom Doninka, to swap her for her father King Loankore III. If successful and King Loankore steps down from the throne his son, the evil Locod would assume the position of King. Locod had been rumored to be in league with the Sosos and Zizmon-Tarl, thus the last of the free world would fall.
Mykal needs to rescue the Princess Doninka within 32 days to prevent the swap to occur. All involved believe if the swap occurs the Sosos will take the opportunity to kill both Doninka and her father the King, which would in turn put the kingdom in Locod’s hands for sure. Mykal and Towbar with a force made up of US Marines, US Army Green Berets, Army Rangers and other soldiers along with Elves, Dwarves, a magician and some of the warriors from Towbar’s world. Mykal’s force of 76 will traverse the dangerous lands on the other side of the world for a second time in search of Zizmon-Tarl’s castle in the hopes of finding and rescuing the Princess Doninka before the deadline.
Most of the survivors from the original Lost Patrol who had been lost on the other side of that world just a month prior have elected to help. The strange creatures and evil forces they had to encounter the first time prepare them for the possibility of the dangers they could face. While they journey through the strange lands on the other side of the world Mykal realizes he is tormented by the magic ring he found the first time he was on this side of the world. The ring enables him to turn invisible, but his emotions are pulled in many different directions. From super sensitive heart wrenching feelings that he calls his ‘sissy emotions’ to his hostile explosive rage that is capable of unleashing violent fury on any whom cross him that he calls his ‘bully emotions’. He knows he can’t part with the mighty powerful magic weapon due to those would try to kill him back in the real world. The rescue of Doninka is of first importance, ending his mental battles due to the magic he possesses will have to be put on hold until the mission to rescue Doninka is over. That is if his mental state will last that long.
5. Mykal’s Mission: Rescue Or Recovery
After Mykal’s near death experience he and the members of Towbar One are still on the hunt to find the Princess Doninka. It’s still not clear whether it will be a Rescue mission or a mission to Recover her body. The forces of Zizmon-Tarl have grown to prevent the rescue of Doninka. Strange and deadly creatures have been introduced to do their best to keep Towbar One from finding the location where the girl is being held.
The clock is slowly running out till the deadline of the Soso’s High Holy Day. On the Soso’s High Holy Day Doninka will be sacrificed to the Soso gods if her father, King Loankore III doesn’t give himself up in trade for her. Such a trade would devastate the last remaining free lands on their side of the world.
Mykal and Towbar must find the girl for Towbar to save his country and for Mykal to save the girl his heart is drawn to. Besides battling the enemy Mykal has to battle his emotions because of his love for his wife. “Doninka is just a friend and I would never hurt my wife,” Mykal argues with himself repeatedly, but his heart is torn because of the princess who loves his dearly. Mykal understands his magic items manipulate his emotions continually and it is just one more battle he must deal with internally.
Mykal and Towbar’s force of more than one hundred is a mix bag from different groups, the likes of which hasn’t been seen in this world before. Mykal has forces from the US Marines, US Army personnel to include Green Berets, Rangers and transport personnel to include vehicles armed with heavier weapons. Towbar the giant has with him some of his warriors, a wizard and his henchmen along with Dwarves, Elves, four defectors from Zizmon-Tarl’s army and the clan of Hawkmen to help in their search of the lands to find and retrieve the princess.
Time is running out and Zizmon-Tarl (“the world’s baddest bad guy,” as Mykal calls him) is throwing everything at them to keep them from his precious catch, the Princess Doninka. Towbar’s part of the world will crumble if Zizmon-Tarl wins and Mykal’s people will be forced to depart for home or die if they don’t succeed.
