Overview: C.A. Hoaks is a Texas author of Texas-centric horror fiction. As one of three daughters of an Indiana, WWII soldier and a Texas farmer girl, she decided early in life to move to Texas to get away from Indiana’s cold winters. She’s lived in the Houston area since moving to Texas and managed to explore most of the varied landscapes in Texas. Being creative in a variety of ways has always been a part of her life including two years studying art at Glassell Contemporary Art School. She is an accomplished artist in a variety of mediums including Krylon, pastels, oil, acrylic and fabric. Some of that creativity is also focused on traditional hand quilting. As a writer, she’s been involved in local writer’s groups and published articles, editorials, and special interest newsletter. As a founding member of the Houston Writer’s League, she organized and coordinated their first national writer’s conference.

Dead Texas Roads is the 2nd book in the Torn Apart series and resumes the journey of several Texans face off against the living and the dead on the back roads of the state! Liz Jameson with the two Vietnam vets, Harry Walters and John Tilman continue searching the back roads of Texas for Liz’s children. Amid the mayhem of the human casualties of the viral agent, there are small pockets of humanity that are still willing to help with the quest. Matt Monroe and his cohorts struggle to supply the Kerrville camp where they harbor women and children lost in the apocalypse. On a supply run, they rescue a foul-mouthed, gun-toting, woman truck driver that turns into an ally and supporter. Steve Benton, Della Marshall, and their small group take shelter in a cloistered haven only to discover it was smoke and mirrors. They continue their quest for sanctuary. MP Brian Jameson escaped a military base overrun by the infected. Without the demands of his military obligation, he has one directive; get to his wife and daughters. Matt Monroe faces his own struggles in the midst of the apocalypse. He finds himself the guardian of nearly sixty people in addition to the Jameson girls. He and his men set up camp at a remote fishing camp in the Hill Country. The struggle is more than half of those survivors are children. Four VA Center survivors made their way out of San Antonio and to the safety of Utopia, a small rural community in the middle of nowhere west Texas. Steve Benton, Della Marshall and Zack Davis with three companions escape the small town when a corrupt Major and his men invade to set up a private fiefdom. Steve’s band of survivors find temporary shelter in a remote hunting cabin when Steve develops a life-threatening infection. Amid the relief of Steve’s recovery, they are forced to move on. Brian Jameson, Liz’s husband, with a young recruit, Billy Walker, and a small group of survivors from San Antonio continue their trek west. When faced with the injustice of other, Brian’s journey to reunite with his family is interrupted.
