Tlooth by Harry Mathews
Requirements: PDF Reader, 32.2 Mb.
Overview: Wildly inventive and original, Tlooth combines linguistic games, parodies of different forms, puzzles, and strange narrative twists, in excursions antiquarian, ethnographic, salacious, and fantastic. The story begins in a prison camp in Siberia, with a baseball game between the Defective Baptists and the Fideists; there follows an escape through Central Asia, a sojourn in Venice, and a whirlwind chase through India, Morocco, and France. The plot involves attempts to take revenge against a surgeon for accidentally removing the left-hand index and ring fingers of the narrator — who had previously been a violinist.
Genre: Contemporary Fiction. Postmodernism. Novel.
