1. Talon: Born premature during the frozen plaque that took his mother, shunned by his father, and raised by his grandmother, Talon has always felt like he doesn’t belong.
For years he dreams of growing big and strong like the giants that surround him. But as the day of measure draws near, he begins to realize that he will never be named a Vald, and will be cast to the village of the Skomm to live a life of slavery.
Barely surviving the beating that follows his failure to meet the measure, Talon is banished to the village of misfits. There he finds friends in the most unlikely of places, and begins to hope he might find some happiness as a Skomm.
As Talon tries to settle into his life in the slave village he is challenged at every turn. The Vaka overseers have it in for him, as does the Chiefson of Timber Wolf Tribe. The Kelda Agaeti is drawing near, called by the Skomm the night of dying, when seven warriors from neighboring tribes win the right to go on a bloody rampage through the village.
After barely surviving a random attack by drunken Vald that left nearly a dozen dead, Talon and his friends decide that they must somehow escape the island. For Chiefson Fylkin has vowed to kill him first on the night of dying.
2. Sea Queen: After a lifetime of abuse at the hands of the murderous Vald, Talon Windwalker is finally free. He sets out across the sea in search of Akkeri, with his spirit wolf Chief at his side.
Talon may have escaped the injustices of the barbarian island, but he cannot escape what he is—a Skomm runaway. Hunted, he must thwart his pursuers while searching for his lost love.
After joining up with a group of fellow runaways wanted for killing their master’s guard, Talon discovers clues to Akkeri’s whereabouts. His quest leads him across the foreign landscape of Agora, and onto a slave ship holding hundreds of his fellow Skomm.
With Chief at his side, and the elven ring Kyrr, Talon finally has the power to destroy his oppressors. But power comes at great cost. The lure of his magical trinkets gains him the attention of those who would take it for themselves. He begins to realize that with such power, he has a responsibility to help his oppressed people. However, in doing so, he may lose the only lead he has to finding Akkeri.
3. Exodus The ex-slave ship Freedom travels east across Agora’s southern seas. Talon has set his sights on Belldon Island, where it is said that Akkeri is being kept by the royal family. He plans on sailing as far North as the Strait of Shierdon before heading south by land to rescue his love. But it seems that the gods have different plans for him, as does the King of Shierdon.
After an attack at sea by a mysterious and powerful foe, Talon finds himself at the center of a large-scale political game. He soon realizes that if he can play the game right, not only will he have a chance to free Akkeri and the Skomm, but he just might be able to gain his people a land of their own.
First, however, he must convince his estranged father to fight beside him against Chieftain Winterthorn and his son, the hated Fylkin.
