1. Vengeance
Every year, a different name. Every year, a different Guardian. A life spent in hiding.
Born into a world where magic is punishable by death, twins Emer and Elisabeth have been hidden by the Order of Guardians their whole lives, changing their names and their Guardians every year at the Winter Solstice. They were told it was to keep them safe. They were told they would be executed by the White Queen’s guards if their magical powers were discovered. The reason for the secrecy is much more sinister.
When Emer and Elisabeth turn eighteen, their new Guardian for the year is appointed. This time it is the same Guardian who abused Emer as a child. They are trapped. The only way to escape is through a Portal that will take them into the past. Before they can escape, the White Queen attacks and captures Elisabeth and Emer is propelled into the Portal.
Now, twenty years in the past, Emer is determined to return to her sister, but the longer she stays in the past, the greater the sacrifice that will be required to return to an uncertain and dangerous future. She has the power to change the future, to defeat the dragons and stop the war. But, if she doesn’t return, what will happen to Elisabeth?
2. Defiance
Emer has returned to her own time through the Portal, along with a younger version of the sister she has been desperate to save.
But the White Queen has other plans. She wants revenge against Emer and she takes it: brutally and without remorse. Shattered, Emer realises there is only one thing left for her.
She is going to destroy the White Queen. But things aren’t all as they seem and Emer finds out that there is far more at stake than her own quest for vengeance.
3. Resistance
Family isn’t about blood. Family is about bonds.
Along with her companions, Emer has returned to the past, to a troubled world. The White Queen has seized power and has started purging the land of anyone with magic. Whole communities are being slaughtered. If she can reach the fortress of Ce’deira, she will be unstoppable.
Emer has a lot to lose, but she isn’t on her own now. With the new family she gathers around her, she must confront the White Queen, and take back what is rightfully hers. If she fails, the world will fall into darkness, taking her sister with it.
