Overview: The Cid has been exiled from the Kingdom of Leon-Castile. Antonio Perez, now a fugitive wanted for murder, sets of in a desperate attempt to find his lord. Their paths lead them to the Moorish taifa of Saraqusta, and an amir in ill health. Al-Muqtadir of Saraqusta is on his deathbed, and he declares his kingdom is to be split between his two sons. Rodrigo, now a sword for hire, must decide where his path lay: with the reserved but fervent Yusuf, or the petulant and envious Mundhir.
Regardless of his decision, he will soon learn that Saraqusta is surrounded by enemies. Sancho Ramirez of Aragon and the counts of Barcelona have long gazed at the taifa with envy, and will look to exploit the political turmoil the death of al-Muqtadir will surely unleash. Will the battles to come break the Cid, or help cement his place as the most feared warrior in all of Hispania?
