1. Fear
It’s black as obsidian. It’s shaped like an egg. It’s the size of a bus. It’s also destroying the world.
A cloud of spores creeps outward across the US, reducing even the strongest people to whimpering puddles of fear.
Within days, the country is decimated. Except for a few survivors, everyone is dead. The streets echo with silence, while the beaches fester with the bodies of those so desperate to escape that they tried to swim across the oceans.
The only ones left untouched are those whose demons live inside their own heads. Deidre is one of those people.
With her supplies dwindling and no hope of rescue, a mysterious broadcast leaves Deidre with the most difficult decision of her life: whether to stay and await certain death, or to set out across the US in a desperate bid for survival.
There’s just one question: will it be the wilderness, or the other survivors, that get her first?
2. Famine
The spores are gone. The world is saved. …Or is it?
When Deidre and Sam stopped the production of the spores, they thought the world was safe. The air was clearing. They hoped the non-Resistants could soon walk the ground again. It was only a matter of time until the US was rebuilt and things returned to some semblance of normalcy. But winter is coming, and new supplies aren’t.
Two hundred people look to Deidre and Sam for survival, and the cold is settling in. The bunker was never meant to house so many people for so long. Tensions run high, food and water are scarce, and the spores still hang in the air.
Time is running out for Sam and Deidre to find a new source of food and water for their community. Just when things seem bleakest, a rumor from the east strikes fear into the hearts of even the bravest survivors. That shiny black egg in the desert? The one Deidre and Sam risked their lives to disable? It might not be the only one…
