Overview: Stephen Sanford is the author of The Problems of Morgan series. He began writing, after being severely wounded in the United States Army. He was serving as an Infantryman in the 172 SBCT and was shot numerous times during a raid on an insurgent safe house in Mosul Iraq in November of 2005. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, the nation’s second highest award for valor. He medically retired from the U.S. Army just under a year later. Despite the best advice of the doctors, who said he would not walk again, or have children…well don’t take birth control advice from a vascular surgeon.

The Problem of Morgan 1
Earth, a backwater spec of habitation, far from anything important has mostly been left alone by the advanced civilizations of the Milky Way galaxy. Everything changes when a war erupts between two powerful civilizations. It just happens that the backwater planet known as “Earth” lies near the front lines. Right where the war is being fought. Earth is suddenly an important place. Morgan is the Flight Systems Operator/ pilot in the back seat of the two-place space fighter. She is also a synthetic human, grown in a lab to fight for her country. During a fight near earth Morgan, the ace pilot is shot down, forced to eject into the God forsaken planet of earth. The human pilot in the front seat does not make it out, and for the first time in her life, Morgan is alone. She had been with him her entire life. She cannot be alone.
Two attempts to rescue Morgan come at once, the alien Imperial Battlefleet for whom she flies, and the U.S. Navy, responding to a crash in the Pacific Ocean. An American fighter pilot spots Morgan first, her battered body floating on the surface of the green water. The American pilot, Lieutenant Oscar Hall, only sees Morgan’s life jacket, then is promptly shot down by Morgan’s friends, also coming to her aid. Morgan and Lt. Hall are both pulled from the waters of the Pacific Ocean by the Imperial Fleet. Once the aliens figure out they have a pilot that isn’t theirs they take the opportunity to establish diplomatic relations with earth. Earth will make an excellent forward base for the war they are fighting. Perhaps the unfolding events are simply an accident?
The Problem of Morgan: The Song of Karaticna 2
Everyone loves a hot android alien girlfriend…until they must live together. A naïve American boy and a sexy alien learn that the honeymoon is over. There is a war on, and they have jobs to do. Forces are moving behind the scenes, and not everything is as accidental as it appears. The empire needs a little political distraction back home, Oscar and Morgan will do nicely.
The empire calls upon its new American allies as they launch an offensive against a desolate planet called Mitruz. The only thing on Mitruz is the enemy, rocks, sand, and misery. Thousands will not come home. But the invasion serves its purpose as a distraction.
Returning from battle, the characters are forced to attend a funeral that no one expected. After the funeral secrets get spilled from an unlikely source. War heroes come home to find that life has changed. The Imperial Senate never sees it coming, and more blood flows as the imperial capital endures a military Coup that seems just a little too convenient.
The graves are not finished being filled when it is time for secrets to be spilled. Morgan and Oscar must both pay the piper, but for separate reasons and in separate ways. The story of Oscar and Morgan goes on in “The Song of Karaticna.” Book 2 of the Problems of Morgan series. The rose-colored lenses are removed, it’s time to see the darker side of the empire. Everyone has a dark side, almost like an evil twin…
