Rob Bell is financially screwed, although his wife doesn’t know it yet. His only hope is to sell a house that he’s constructed near to the beach. With one day to go to the sale, his, and everyone else’s world comes crashing down. Severe movement in the Earth’s tectonic plates caused by sun flares discharging positive charged particles into the mantle, go on to create a disaster that scientists failed to predict in its enormity. EMPs destroy the grid. Ash from volcanos darken the land. Floods divide the nation, with new mountain ranges created. The USA will never be the same again, changed forever.
Their home in a gated community is high in the hills of Santa Monica, overlooking the Pacific. They decide to stay put. Survival is the new game, money no longer an issue as death casts its shadow over the World and their community.
As their food supplies run low, and constantly under attack from outsiders, Brogan the head of their community security creates a mini fiefdom, with Rob’s wife in charge of rations. Under attack, and falling foul of Brogan, and with death stalking him, Rob knows the only way out is for them to travel to his dad’s bunker. Trouble is, io get there is a thousand-mile journey fraught with danger and his wife doesn’t want to go. Fiercely loyal, he will have to decide if he should leave or to stay.
His life and others will depend on the outcome.
2. Secession: Last Fourth of July
WHEN DISASTER STRIKES – THE GOVERNMENT HIDES – CHAOS RULES
Rob Bell is where he doesn’t want to be, having arrived at his dad’s bunker in Colorado, despite the perilous journey he had to encounter with Rosa, his next-door neighbor from their gated community. Events since the journey have left him depressed, without an ounce of trust in anyone. He shuns dad’s community who work on the maintenance of the farm and bunker, considering himself a failure in all his endeavors that his dad said he would be when he left home to get away from his controlling ways. His loyalty to family won’t let him leave, having an engrained, love-hate relationship with his dad who is slowly but surely dying of cancer.
Without purpose in his life, he just wants to survive, clinging to Rosa as a prop to give him some semblance of friendship, but his trust issues are never far away. She is his polar opposite, sure of herself and having purpose in her life. Taking over radio contact with his dad’s dwindling circle of preppers, Rosa is gaining a reputation under her radio handle of Queen Rosa, broadcasting tips on survival techniques and warnings of roaming scavengers. With the government hidden in their Doomsday Bunker, the nation divides as secession rears its head, and through Rosa, he is drawn into the world of politics, his pet hate.
When they learn Brogan has survived and heading their way with an army, Rob will have to stand tall and overcome his sense of failure as Brogan seeks to end his life.
The fate of Rob, Rosa and all those in the bunker will depend on the outcome.
3. Invasion: Alliance of Nations
WHEN A NATION DIVIDES – THE WHOLE WEAKENS – STRENGTH WINS
With what was the USA now divided along racial, and political ideologies, the Republic of New Mexico is now controlled by Martinez, a ruthless psychopathic cartel leader. To make matters worse, Rob Bell’s arch enemy has escaped after he attempted to assassinate Rob and Rosa. Rob knows that it will likely not end their feud. Brogan will need to silence them as witnesses to his atrocities, but for now he is out of reach in the Republic of New Mexico.
Rob has his new challenges at the bunker and farm to keep him occupied with a band of so-called Unifier Militia camping nearby, and determined to restore the Union, and with eyes on taking over their bunker. Just as he finds peace with himself, he is drawn with Rosa yet again into a world of politics and conflict, when Socialist Cascadia, after accepting aid from the Chinese, their president realizes that they are gaining a foothold to take control of their nation. With invasion imminent, the president calls out for help.
Divided, neither nation will have the power to repel them. Rob and Rosa will find them thrust into the center of negotiation to have the nations come together to take the fight to the enemy. But it won’t end there, not with Brogan still at large.
The outcome of all their challenges will depend on if the new nations will end up enslaved or liberated. And for that, Rob will need to stand tall.
