The Nurse’s Letters by Laura Fletcher (Western Mail Order Bride Nurses Book 1)
Requirements: .ePUB reader, 355 Kb
Overview: Allison Crowley had only known the streets of her hometown in New York since her birth. She lost her parents young and trained in the medical field to be a nurse. In 1912, she is working in a hospital and is close to her colleagues, Cynthia and Jennifer. But she feels an itch to start a new life elsewhere, which leads her to answer an ad from a wealthy rancher in Texas looking for a bride.
Bill Andrews is mostly content with his life. At least that’s what he tells himself on a daily basis. It is only at the insistence of his mother that he look for a new wife to be a mother to his seven-year-old son, Casper. But when he receives the first letters from Allison, something inside him says it’s time to let go of his deceased wife, Cassandra, and see if love could really be on the horizon for him.
Allison leaves behind her colleagues and her favorite patient, Clara, for the desert sands of Texas. She is enthralled with the place the moment she arrives. But she is surprised to discover that Casper is a sickly child, who is taken care of daily by a nanny/nurse named Mary.
Immediately upon her arrival, Allison knows there is something off with Mary. She is the only person she meets who does not have a friendly, positive demeanor. Mary is suspicious and solemn, unless she is speaking to Bill. When she is around her employer, she acts more like a wife and mother. Allison does not like to feel jealous, nor does she want to be afraid that she could lose the man she’d fallen for so quickly to a woman who already had her sights set on him.
Allison begins to question whether she was brought to Texas to be a wife or a nurse for the child. She loves her profession but did not want it to mix into her personal life. She doesn’t know whether to confront Bill about it or not. He doesn’t seem to have a clue what’s going on with the women around him. If he does, he surely doesn’t understand it or want to get involved.
Allison finds she isn’t just taken with the city of Calgary. She is taken with the man who brought her there. Bill is charismatic, funny, engaging, and handsome. Has she found her paradise? Or will she end up an unpaid servant to Bill Andrews?
Bill is clueless to the antics of Mary as she tries to keep her close, personal relationship with him and his son. He is not aware that she has been in love with him most of the time of her employment. He also doesn’t notice her somewhat hostile attitude toward Allison.
Allison notices. After overheard conversations and the constant rebuffing from Mary, Allison must make a choice. Has she made a mistake coming to Texas to be the bride of a stranger? Or will it prove to be the best thing to ever happen to her?
