Overview: On the eve of the Democratic National Convention, and on his way to a landslide reelection victory, President William Rutledge collapses and passes away at his home in Charleston. The Democratic Party is left in chaos, without a Presidential nominee and only three days to choose one. While in South America secretly negotiating the terms of a peace agreement with an old enemy, Vice President Robert Benson learns the news: that he is now the President of the United States. This despite the White House announcement months earlier that Senator Edward Kane would replace Benson as the Vice Presidential nominee on the Rutledge reelection ticket.
