Overview: Frederick Cowles (1900–48) was a librarian by profession who occupied his leisure hours writing on the subjects of topography and gipsy lore. In addition he wrote sixty-one ghost stories. THE NIGHT WIND HOWLS, first published in 1938, contains twenty-four of these stories and is the second of three volumes collecting all of Cowles’s supernatural fiction.
