Kate is an absolute knockout, a preternaturally beautiful woman living a bizarrely normal life for someone possessed of such considerable “talents”. Like so many after March 2020, she found herself working from home, isolated from everyone but her husband Mike. As the Billing Manager for Mike’s engineering firm, her only contact with the outside world was through Teams meetings with Mike’s clients and employees. By the summer of 2022, she had begun to lose all sense of herself, especially her unique place as a truly singular gift of nature.
Her husband Mike was also unique, but in very different ways. He was not particularly handsome, built, or wealthy. In fact his best attributes were his intelligence and very odd sense of confidence. He knew he was out of Kate’s league, but somehow he had won her heart and he was determined to keep it. That’s why when he began to sense Kate’s spirit waning like a caged majestic tiger, he was determined to set her free.
David is everything Mike is not – young, handsome, extremely good with the ladies, and although he doesn’t know it yet, extremely insecure. Seemingly innocuous circumstances lead Mike to rent the second floor apartment in their duplex to David, setting in motion a chain of cataclysmic events that alters all of their lives forever.
In the whirlwind that follows, the levers of power seem to change hands every week. David is like a champion heavyweight boxer who has finally met his match, pressed against the ropes so dazed he can’t defend himself from the next devastating body blow. All he can do is wonder who is calling the shots? What are their motivations? None of this is anything he would normally need to confront. But ultimately, in this age of “the new normal”, who can define what “normal” really means? When the bell rings and the decision is called, Kate, Mike and David will have learned more about life, love and happiness than most do in a lifetime.
