The New Earth Chronicles (1-2) by J. J. Thompson
Requirements: ePUB / MOBI Reader, 1.8MB
Overview: My early inspirations were J. R. R. Tolkien, Andre Norton, Piers Anthony and a long list of other amazing fantasy and sci-fi writers, and I have many fond memories of their work. Like those authors, I have always aspired to create exciting worlds inhabited by people that I care about, and who I hope my readers will care about as well.
Genre: Fiction; Fantasy
#1 – The First Paladin
Ten years ago, the modern world as we know it was destroyed. Dark forces from the Void sent dragons to the Earth, and these ancient, evil creatures devastated human civilization. The population was all but wiped out, and the few survivors were Changed by the magic that the dragons reintroduced into the world.
But from the ashes, heroes were born; people granted special abilities by the lords of Light to fight back against the darkness. And one of these heroes was a woman named Liliana Travnikov.
Born and raised in Russia, Liliana was a middle-aged grandmother when her world was erased in a tide of fire and blood. She managed to survive and fled into the countryside, pursued by hordes of horrific monsters. She was sure that she would die, as her family had before her, but instead she was blessed by a mysterious stranger and granted youth, and the power to take the fight to the dragons and their masters.
This is the story of how it began, and of how Liliana became the first paladin.
#2 – The Changlings
It has been ten years since the return of the dragons and the fall of mankind. Many things have changed since then and humanity is teetering on the brink of extinction.
But back before any of that happened, something else had begun. Random children from all around the globe had started changing, mutating in strange ways, and neither scientists nor doctors could explain why.
Some children grew extra fingers and toes. Or claws instead of fingernails. Scales or fur instead of bare skin. Vestigial tails or wings. The mutations seemed endless, and totally random.
These special children came to be known as Changlings. Many governments had them rounded up ‘for their own protection’ and taken to special laboratories to be experimented on. And then technology had failed, anarchy reigned briefly and the dragons came back to destroy civilization in a wave of fire and blood.
But some of the Changlings survived. It turned out that their mutations hadn’t been random after all. They had been caused by magic. And so these children were ideally suited to live and thrive on the New Earth. This is a tale of one particular group of special children, who lived in what remained of the city of Ottawa and of how the world forced them to grow up, step out of the shadows and claim their destiny.
