Overview: Micheál Cladáin studied the classics and developed a love of mythology during those studies. Learning about ancient Roman and Greek cultures was augmented by a combined sixteen years living in those societies, albeit the modern versions, in Cyprus and Italy. As such, Micheál decided to write in the mythological genre, trying to follow in the footsteps of such greats as Henry Treece, Mary Renault and more lately, David Gemmell and Bernard Cornwell. Because of his Irish roots, he chose the Celtic tradition over the Classical tradition.

Slow to die, he watches the warriors of Connacht, too afraid of him to kill him and too afraid of her to leave! After two days of suffering, he decides this will be his last, and he berates his audience, trying to drive them to a level of anger that will drown their fears. They watch as he tells the story of his life as the Champion of Ulster, the sword and shield of Conchobar Mac Nessa, The Deceiver. He tells them of the cowardice of their queen and the drunkenness of their king, but they ignore him. His pain and suffering seem unending, and he wonders if he has offended the Sidhe.
His question is answered when he hears Badh, the Raven of the Dead, arrive to claim him The Son of Light
