1. To Cast The First Spell
Daniel Benhannon has finished building his cabin near the peak of Mount Tannakonna and is ready to leave home and invite Val Terrance to be his wife. But the simple life he hopes for is changed forever when he inadvertently casts a spell so powerful it draws the attention of the Grand Maestro of Aakadon and the dark Maestro Tarin Conn. The two powerful foes sense a change in the balance of power and both of them intend for it to be in their favor. Daniel wants nothing to do with either faction but must learn to master his newly discovered potential before the forces sent looking for him destroy his family and friends and every person living in the remote village of Bashierwood. But to master his potential he must learn from an Accomplished. To save the village he must accept help from Talenteds sent by Efferin Tames, or surrender to Tarin Conn. To seize control of his life he must set his priorities and arrange his chores accordingly.
2. To Challenge A Maestro
Daniel Benhannon, a young mountaineer, recently raised to six bolt Accomplished, wants to be left alone to live out his life as he chooses. The casting of his first spell has placed him square in the middle of an ancient battle between the seven Guilds of Aakadon, led by Grand Maestro, Efferin Tames, and the Serpent Guild, led by Maestro Balen Tamm. To accomplish his goal, Daniel must break his link to the mind of the evil Tarin Conn, the Dark Maestro, imprisoned beneath Mount Kelgotha. To break the link, he must go to Aakadon, keep secret his standing as a six bolt Accomplished, a potential equaling that of the Grand Maestro, out maneuver Efferin Tames, Balen Tamm, and Tarin Conn, three of the most powerful Accomplished in history, and show them what a Ducaunan backwoodsman can really do after he sets his priorities and arranges his chores accordingly.
3. To Be Chosen
Daniel learns what it means to be the Creator’s Chosen Vessel. Queen Cleona has a deadly disease for which there is no cure, Serin Gell has escaped, and spies infest the royal court. The Serpent Guild is reorganizing with two Accomplisheds vying for the coveted position of Maestro and the Ducaunan mountaineer gets caught up in the machinations of one while his friends get tangled up with the other. For a thousand years the Trumpet of Tarin Conn has been hidden away by the Ducaunan Royal family, now Duke Cantor of house Ducalin sends word that his estate is under assault by members of the Serpent Guild and the trumpet is in danger of once again falling in the hands of the enemy Aakacarns. As a newly dubbed Royal Knight of Ducaun, Daniel must go from the sasquatch infected swamps of Append to the northern kingdom of Pentrosa in pursuit of the trumpet. His friends, Sherree and Jerremy, face horror and death if Daniel makes the wrong choice, but the right choice could mean war between Ducaun and Pentrosa. To succeed, Daniel must accept that he is the Creator’s Champion, recover the Trumpet of Tarin, compose a healing Melody, all why trying to keep secret his ability to cast spells has not been hampered by the Silencing laid upon him by the Grand Maestro.
4. To Be A Maestro
Daniel’s success in the Foot Hills of Pentrosa makes his restored ability to summon Potential known to his enemies. Queen Cleona has declared a state of emergency and has ordered all legions to prepare for war, including the requirement for all nobles to summon their personal muster of troops. Harmonic waves emanating from the Dark Maestro causes wide spread panic, the entire world fears he is about to break free from his entombment beneath Mount Kelgotha, and pressure is brought on Grand Maestro Efferin Tames to stop Tarin Conn from escaping. Vance Cummin reveals Daniel’s deepest secret to the world. The Eagle Guild spends more time and resources trying to arrest Daniel than tracking down Accomplisheds of the Serpent Guild. All the while, Vance pushes his allies to use the Ducaunan military build up as justification to marshal their own troops, and then attack the peaceful kingdoms that were unprepared for war.
5. To Be Grand Maestro
The fledgling Atlantan Guild is facing retaliatory strikes from the Serpent Guild and is declared an illegitimate society by the Grand Maestro of Aakadon. Tarin Conn rises from his mountain tomb and only the shield placed on his potential keeps him from unleashing all of his might. Political tensions increase and armies are on the march as kingdoms take advantage of civil unrest and use security as a pretext for seizing territory from their neighbors. Daniel has been weakened from the castings at Shantear. He must rely on his ability to innovate and the dedication of his associates in order to fend off attacks from both the Serpents and the Eagles. The influence of Tarin Conn increases over seven of the twelve kingdoms and his guild grows stronger by the day. The only way to keep the Dark Maestro from having dominion over the world is a strong alliance between the Atlantan Guild and Aakadon, which will never happen so long as Efferin Tames is the Grand Maestro.
6. To Be Victorious
The world is at war. The Serpent Guild and the northern kingdoms are united while the south is divided between those allied with Daniel’s Atlantan Guild and the nations allied with Aakadon. The changes in leadership within the city of the Aakacarns make an alliance between the Atlantan Guild and Aakadon possible, but not guaranteed now that blood has been shed on both sides. Cooperation between the two societies must happen in order to achieve victory and yet may not be enough to turn the tide of war. Tarin Conn is free from Daniel’s spell and the ancient Maestro’s appetite for power has grown. The Serpent Guild’s teleportation raids increase and the spell-powered weapons given to their allies increase the destruction visited upon the southern kingdoms. To be victorious in the War of the Champions, Daniel and the members of his guild must trust the people who attacked them and defeat Tarin Conn, the most powerful spell-caster ever born, along with the Serpent Guild. This time setting his priorities and arranging his chores accordingly may not be enough.
7. To Wear A Trident
The champion of evil has been defeated and yet Daniel’s role as the Chosen Vessel only becomes more complicated. The Swirling of Events has inverted, forcing him to go where he needs to be, rather than having those things being drawn to him. He is not given the luxury of knowing where he needs to go or what ought to be done upon arrival, only that it is critical the chore be done or the victory he achieved will be for nothing. According to the Teki Seer, Silvia, knowledge of the Trident is not only crucial to his success, death will take him in a matter of months if he fails to learn, and the guilds and kingdoms of Atlantan will fall to the thieving Zeuthan Empire.
After witnessing the horribly destructive power of a Ruby-level aqua-bomb, Daniel feels compelled to finally intervene on behalf of the island kingdom of Serinia. Hard feelings in Aakadon ruin the goodwill brought about by the defeat of the Serpent Guild and sour even more as he strives to fulfill the requirements of Silvia’s Vision. His confrontations with El Marzon’s forces threaten a new war no one but Daniel and his guild seem willing to fight, all while living up to his new designation; Seardoon, the Author of Change.
