It Worked 1
The Boy knew that he would be killed. He had become an adult and that made him dangerous to his Master, the exiled Magician of the North. A child cannot cast spells, but a young man can, and the Boy has the gift of Memory, retaining thousands of spells. As soon as his Master notices that the Boy is no longer a child, he will be killed. To survive, he must act first.
Now, the Boy must take over his Master’s place and somehow hope to survive, having inherited the Master’s enemies. He has become the most powerful man in the North – and every crossbow in existence is lined up on his back, waiting for an excuse to pull the trigger.
Breaking Out 2
Helket is aware now of his strength as a magician and of his remarkable intelligence, possibly too much so for his own good.
The people he meets, both in his own new lordship and in the greater kingdom, take their own measure of the young genius and act to protect themselves while placating him.
All the while, the changes he has instigated turn societies upside-down and create a new and unpredicted set of events in his kingdom and the rest of the known world, which he and others, many as yet unknown, must respond to.
Suffering from his emotionally deprived childhood, Helket is unable to relate to friends or lovers and is eternally surprised at how they react to him, leading to new and unpredicted crises. Nothing is as he expects, and he does not know what to do.
