The Journal of Submarine Commander Von Forstner by Freiherrn von Forstner
Requirements: ePUB or AZW3 Reader, 2.8MB
Overview: Unlike some other Kindle versions of Von Forstner’s JOURNAL, this has his original photographs plus a number of additional photographs not included in the earlier versions. Also included in this version are facts and historical figures not originally available. < Published in 1916 by Freiherrn von Forstner, commander of the first German U-boat in the history of submarine warfare, the publisher has then added a pictorial of the submarines as they were produced by the German imperial Navy. Part of the book gives a technical description,—not so much of the construction of a submarine as of the nature of its activities,—which presents us an unusual opportunity to glean a few valuable facts from this personal and intimate account of the first German U-boats. Being published in 1916, we are inclined to a certain grim humor in borrowing the candid information given to us Americans so unconsciously by Freiherrn von Forstner, for he could hardly suppose it would fall into the hands of those who would join the fighting ranks of the hated enemy. Nothing has aroused such fear as this invisible enemy, nor has anything outraged the civilized world like the tragedies caused by the German U-boat submarines.
