01 Rome Falls
Much has been written about the so called ‘barbarian’ invasion between 300 and 500 AD that ultimately led to the Fall of the Roman Empire. Long before this, twelve thousand Celts crossed the Alps looking to conquer new lands. After treachery and murder, Rome dispatched four of her legions – twenty four thousand men – to confront the invaders on the 18th July 390BC. The battle took place next to a small river called Allia. This book follows both sides, the perilous journey the Celts made to get there and what the Romans did to provoke them in to battle.
The story is set towards the end of the Bronze Age, so when a new stronger and lighter metal has been discovered men are prepared to steal and kill to possess the knowledge of how to make iron. We follow the son of one of the Romans sent to negotiate peace, and the small band of warriors, a druid and a necromancer sent by the Celts to pave the way for the main army.
02 Empire Of White Gold
The Celtic army receive a thousand pounds in weight of gold in payment for abandoning their capture of Rome. They accept the huge payment and head home. The Chieftain, Brennus, traverses back through the Alps whilst our Silurian warriors head west to the port of Civita Vecchia in search of a sea passage to return to their homeland. During this voyage, they meet a salt trader from Hallstatt who owns several salt mines. However, the bronze tools his men are using are failing and he needs to find stronger and more robust tools to access the untapped mountains of salt that lie deeper underground.
Their vessel is attacked whilst crossing the sea by a Carthaginian warship. During this skirmish, the salt trader witnesses the shattering of the Carthaginian leader’s bronze sword by the Celt’s weapon – a sword that he later discovers was made from iron. This new metal could be the answer he has been looking for in his quest to fabricate stronger tools. The battle sees our Celtic hero Arenwen making a new enemy, one who will follow him through the Pillars of Hercules, desperate for revenge. The adventure sees them putting to many ports to re-stock their supplies where they discover new and ancient lands where they enlist the tribes to help them along their journey.
Our heroes return to their home town of Pont-y-ty-pridd where they manufacture iron tools and weapons for the salt trader – the man who trades in white gold
03 Princes And Kings
Towards the end of 388 B.C. our band of Celtic warriors have left the salt mines of Hallstatt rich beyond their wildest dreams, and are heading home. They had spent the summer manufacturing tools from a new metal called iron, much stronger than bronze. This enabled the locals to dig deeper into the mineral rich mountains to extract their precious commodity.
Little do they know that the ship and crew they had previously sold into slavery was commanded by a Prince, who now released, has sworn to hunt the Celtic leader down and kill him. The malicious royal had previously tried to catch his prey, but failed. He has devised a plan to take hostages, and lure the leader of the Silurian Celts to the capital city of the Carthage.
Our hero must travel through unknown lands to face the unequalled might of the Carthaginian Empire. He will free his friends, or die trying.
