Requirements: .ePUB reader, 390 KB
Overview: 1986. Two prominent social thinkers, Carl Wirth and Samuel Hoffman, are assassinated in a plane explosion over Chicago’s O’Hare Airport. The murders are eventually banished to the cold case files. Segue to 2025. Bishop Edward Joseph the Third, a member of the Church of New Morality, has been elected president of the U.S. Soon the Bill of Rights is largely nullified, and Congress passes a law replacing the death penalty with lobotomies. Wirth and Hoffman’s case is also reopened.
Meanwhile a secret society called the Intelligence Factor has emerged, founded on the teachings of Wirth and Hoffman and dedicated to the annihilation of the status quo. Steve Brooks, a recent college grad and rising star in Chicago’s ad world, joins the Intelligence Factor so he could vindicate the one woman he had for so long considered his eternal soulmate – Jane Miller, whom authorities have lobotomized for participating in numerous subversive activities. Steve is suffering, however, from the onset of paranoid schizophrenia.
Homeland Security meanwhile has created a paramilitary force, Special Matters of the Interior (SMI), to help enforce the newly-passed USA Morality Act, destroy the Intelligence Factor, and investigate the murder of Wirth and Hoffman. Guy Farrell, a captain in SMI who lost his wife a while back in an apparently freak drive-by, eventually crosses paths with Steve Brooks — under tragic, pitiful circumstances.
